Relevant to anyone sourcing Victron kit through third-party European suppliers — worth a read before you commit.
I had a similar headache last year when I was speccing up the system for my garden office. Not with Techno Sun specifically, but with a lesser-known Spanish reseller who shall remain nameless. Ordered an EasySolar-II 48/3000 and when it arrived the firmware was several versions behind, VRM registration threw errors, and getting warranty support was like pulling teeth because the UK Victron distributor (Bimble Solar in my case) said it wasn't sourced through proper channels.
A few things I'd flag for anyone considering this route:
- Warranty is the big one. Victron's warranty is tied to authorised distribution chains. If something goes wrong 18 months in, you could be left high and dry.
- Firmware/VRM issues — not always, but older stock from grey-market sellers can cause activation headaches.
- Support access — UK-based authorised dealers like Bimble, Powerstore, or 12V Planet actually know this kit. That matters when you're debugging at 11pm with no grid backup.
I ended up resolving mine eventually, but it cost me weeks of back-and-forth and nearly scuppered my whole off-grid setup before it even got going.
Has anyone else run into supplier issues specifically with European resellers shipping into the UK post-Brexit? Curious whether customs/VAT complications made things worse for others, because that added another layer of grief for me.
Would love to hear if anyone's had a smooth experience going that route — genuinely not trying to scaremonger, just think people deserve the full picture before spending £1,500+ on a unit.
