Been keeping an eye on these Eco-Worthy LiFePO4 units for a while now — decent price point compared to the Fogstar Drift and the like, but always wondered whether the Bluetooth BMS is actually useful or just a gimmick.

A few questions if anyone's running one of these on a boat:

  • How does the BMS handle the damp environment? Condensation is a real concern in my bilge area and I've had issues with cheaper units before
  • Is the Bluetooth app any good for monitoring state of charge accurately, or does it drift over time without a proper calibration cycle?
  • Anyone paired one with a Victron SmartSolar and found any compatibility quirks with the charge profile?

I'm currently running a pair of older AGM leisure batteries and the weight savings alone from switching to LiFePO4 would be worthwhile on my setup. The 280AH capacity looks attractive on paper but I'm always sceptical of the rated vs usable figures on budget brands.

Also curious whether anyone's tested the low-temperature cutoff — moorings up north can get brutal in January and I'd rather know the BMS kicks in properly before committing.

Would love to hear from anyone who's had one for 12+ months rather than just a honeymoon period review. Long-term cycle data would be particularly interesting.

The Bluetooth on those Eco-Worthy units is functional but fairly basic compared to what you get with, say, a Victron SmartShunt paired to a proper Fogstar cell. You'll see voltage, SOC, and individual cell voltages, which is genuinely useful for spotting a drifting cell early — had exactly that issue with a cheaperunit in my static caravan setup before I caught it.

Main concern I'd flag is the BMS current limits under heavy discharge. Check the spec sheet carefully; some of the 280AH variants are conservative on continuous output, which matters if you're running anything demanding.

For emergency backup or a shepherd's hut where loads are modest, probably fine. Garden office with an inverter running power tools? I'd want to stress-test it properly first or consider stepping up to something with a more transparent BMS.

@OakSeeker the BMS transparency question is the real issue for me. With my Fogstar Drift setup I can pull cycle count, individual cell voltages, and temperature data all from one app — that granularity matters when you're trying to diagnose a weak cell before it drags the whole pack down.

What I'd want to know before committing to the Eco-Worthy unit is whether the BMS actually balances passively or actively, and at what state of charge the balancing kicks in. A lot of budget units only balance at the very top of the charge curve, which on a van setup where you're rarely hitting 100% absorption means the cells gradually diverge over time.

Has anyone pulled the actual BMS specs rather than relying on the marketing sheet? That'd tell you far more than the Bluetooth app ever will.

@OakSeeker I've got a couple of these sitting alongside some Fogstar Drift cells and the Bluetooth is... fine. Does the job for checking cell voltages and state of charge on the fly, but the app is clunky and I've had it drop connection mid-session more than once.

What I'd actually flag is the capacity claims — mine settled around 265AH real-world at 0.2C, which isn't terrible but worth knowing before you build your system around the full 280.

For the price difference versus Fogstar, it's honestly not massive enough to make it a no-brainer. If you're running a larger array and want reliable monitoring long-term, the Drift's BMS data integration with Victron kit is genuinely worth the premium. These Eco-Worthy units feel more like a "it'll do" purchase than something you're confident in for 10 years.

@OakSeeker had one of these for about eight months now and the Bluetooth app crashes more reliably than my old diesel genny ever did.

@Brummie84 that diesel generator line actually made me spit tea on my motorhome dashboard, cheers for that 😂

Serious question though — does anyone know if the BMS on these will actually talk to a Victron system properly, or is it doing its own thing in a corner like a sulky teenager? My current Fogstar
