Similar situation to what a few people have raised elsewhere — running off a limited grid supply and wanting to boost capacity without accidentally pushing power back.
In my case it's a static setup on a site with strict no feed-in rules. The warden is very particular about it. I've been looking hard at the Victron RS Smart Solar range for exactly this reason, but the feed-in prevention side of things isn't always clearly documented.
From what I've gathered so far:
- The grid feed-in can be disabled in VEConfigure / VictronConnect settings
- You'd set the inverter to "external control" or limit AC output accordingly
- ESS (Energy Storage System) mode has a "keep batteries charged" option that should prevent export
But I'm not 100% confident that covers every edge case — what happens during a sudden load drop, for instance? Does it react fast enough to avoid a brief spike back into the grid?
Anyone here actually running a RS 48/6000 in a no-export configuration? Particularly interested in:
- Whether the settings are reliable long-term or need babysitting
- If a Victron Energy Meter is genuinely necessary to make it behave properly
- Whether Fogstar batteries play nicely with the RS series over the CAN bus
I've seen some folk mention using a physical relay or contactor as a belt-and-braces backup to prevent export entirely, which feels like the pragmatic approach if the software side isn't watertight.
Keen to hear from anyone who's actually stress-tested this rather than just going off spec sheets.
