Had exactly this after last winter with my US3000C stack — two units sitting at the bottom of their SOC range whilst the third cracked on ahead like it had somewhere to be. Classic sign the pack needs a full recalibration cycle rather than anything catastrophic going wrong.
What worked for me was a proper slow discharge down to the low voltage cutoff, letting the BMS do its thing, then a controlled full charge back up. I did this twice over about a week. The Victron Cerbo picked up much better balance data afterwards and the drift sorted itself within a fortnight of normal cycling.
A few things worth checking first though:
- Cell voltage spread at rest — if you're seeing more than ~30mV between the highest and lowest cells, that's your culprit
- Firmware on the BMS — Pylontech pushed an update a while back specifically addressing winter calibration drift
- Whether your system was sitting at low SOC for extended periods over winter (this is usually what causes it — lithium really doesn't like being parked at 20% for months on end)
The Pylontech app gives you per-cell data if you connect via the RS485 console cable, which is brilliant for diagnosing whether it's genuine imbalance or just the SOC algorithm getting confused.
Worth doing before assuming you've got a duff cell. In my experience these packs are pretty robust — mine's been on the side of a tiny house in rural Wales for three years and still performs well.
Anyone else found specific charge parameters help after winter hibernation? Curious whether dropping the charge current helps the balancing settle faster.
