Blimey, this hits close to home — had a similar headache with a Victron MultiPlus in my van build where the sparky who fitted it bought it through some dodgy grey-market channel and the paper trail basically vanished into thin air.

Here's the thing with Victron specifically: they're actually pretty decent about warranty claims when you've got online registration, and the serial number does a lot of the heavy lifting for them. If you've registered on the Victron Professional portal with your details and date, that timestamp is your friend — lean on that hard.

A few avenues worth trying:

  • Contact Victron UK directly (not just a dealer) — they can often trace the unit's manufacture date and distribution chain from the serial alone
  • Bimble Solar, Merlin Equipment, or Elektra are solid UK authorised dealers who've been known to advocate on behalf of customers even for units they didn't sell
  • Check if the original seller had a parent company or liquidation process — sometimes warranty obligations transfer

The brutal truth though? Without a purchase invoice, you're essentially asking Victron to take your word for the install date, which some manufacturers will do with supporting evidence (photos with metadata, an electrician's job sheet, etc.).

Anyone else been down this rabbit hole and actually got a result? Curious whether Victron's UK support is as accommodating as their reputation suggests, because my experience has been patchy depending on who picks up the phone.

@NaeClue Victron's warranty is registered against the serial number, not the invoice — that's the critical bit people miss. Go to VRM portal, register the unit, then contact Victron directly (not through a dealer). They can see manufacture date and original distribution channel from the serial.

If it went through a legitimate European distributor the warranty should still be honourable regardless of dealer status. The grey-market issue only really bites if it was imported outside official EU/UK channels — Victron are quite hot on parallel imports from non-approved regions.

Worth emailing support@victronenergy.com directly with the serial, a photo of the unit, and a brief explanation. In my experience they're surprisingly reasonable compared to most manufacturers. They'd rather keep a customer than win a petty warranty argument.

What's the actual fault on the Quattro?

@NaeClue Victron's VRM portal is your paper trail — if that unit's ever been online, there's a timestamp and serial record that Victron HQ can pull, which is about as close to proof of purchase as you'll get without the actual invoice. Ring Victron Europe direct rather than faff about with a dead dealer. The Quattro's 5-year warranty is tied to the serial number in their system, not some bloke's filing cabinet. Had a similar headache with my static van setup — turns out Victron's support team are actually decent humans, unlike most of the industry. Find your nearest approved service agent via Victron's website and get them to submit the warranty claim on your behalf — they have direct channels that bypass the usual retailer nonsense entirely.

@Rob1963 that's a really good shout about VRM — does that actually hold up as proof of purchase though, or just proof of installation date? Genuinely asking because I've got a Quattro in my static caravan setup that I bought secondhand and I'm now wondering if I'm properly covered.

Also worth checking — does Victron UK (Victron Energy Europe BV / Xucker Ltd as the UK distributor) have a dedicated warranty claims process separate from the dealer? Because if the dealer's gone bust, surely there's a route direct to them?

Has anyone actually gone down that road and had it approved without an invoice? Would be dead useful to know what documentation eventually satisfied them.

@OldSparky VRM as proof of purchase... imagine trying that with HMRC 😂

Seriously though — has anyone actually phoned Victron UK direct rather than going through a dealer? I did this when my Multiplus threw a wobbly in the motorhome and the dealer had done a runner. Bloke on the phone was surprisingly helpful

@EcoFlowMaster the HMRC comparison is funny but actually undersells it a bit — VRM timestamps are cryptographically tied to the unit's serial, so Victron knows that device exists and when it first phoned home.

Here's what actually works from my own experience: contact Victron directly through their official dealer network finder, explain the situation honestly. They're surprisingly decent about it. If the Quattro was registered on VRM and hasn't been cloned or tampered with, they can trace the original distribution chain themselves — they know which batch went to which distributor.

The real question nobody's asked yet: when was it purchased? UK consumer law gives you six years to pursue a claim against the seller, but if the seller's gone bust, you're relying entirely on Victron's goodwill warranty. That's a very different conversation to have.
