Been doing a fair bit of research before I submit my installation for sign-off and I'm hitting a few gaps in my knowledge that I can't quite fill from existing threads here.

My setup is a Victron Multiplus-II with a Fogstar Drift lithium battery bank, feeding a small outbuilding that's fully off-grid. No grid connection whatsoever.

A few things I'm genuinely unsure about:

  • Does a fully off-grid system still need to go through an NICEIC or NAPIT registered electrician for Part P compliance, or does that only apply when there's a grid tie-in?
  • Is there a difference in how building control treat a standalone solar system vs one with a battery inverter like the Multiplus?
  • Anyone dealt with getting MCS certification questions when you're not claiming any feed-in tariff or SEG — does MCS even matter in that case?

I realise the rules differ depending on whether you're in England, Scotland, or Wales, which adds another layer of confusion. I'm in England if that helps narrow it down.

Has anyone here actually gone through the full sign-off process for a pure off-grid inverter/battery setup recently? Curious whether it was straightforward or whether building control got involved even when there's no DNO notification needed.

Also wondering whether the Victron VE.Configure documentation is considered sufficient for any inspector, or whether you need additional system diagrams drawn up to a specific standard?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar — especially if you used an installer vs DIY route.

Mate, the thread title's in French but you're on a UK forum — either way, if you're running a Victron Multiplus and need sign-off, the golden rule is MCS/BS 7671 compliance and making sure your AC wiring into the inverter is properly fused and labelled like it owes you money.

Key things inspectors love to flag:

  • RCD protection on the AC output side
  • Correct cable sizing (don't cheap out)
  • Battery disconnect within reach
  • Fogstar/Victron BMS comms properly configured if you're on lithium

The Victron VRM portal logs are actually brilliant to show an inspector — proves the system's behaving itself.

Post your full schematic and someone here will spot the gaps before NAPIT/NICEIC does! 🔌
