Been running a 24v 200Ah Fogstar Drift on the boat for about 14 months now and honestly can't fault it. That said, if I were speccing fresh today and needed the full 300Ah, I'd be looking hard at the Fogstar Drift 300Ah or the Enjoybot units that keep cropping up on here.

The Enjoybot gets decent reviews for the money, but my gut still leans toward Fogstar purely because they're UK-based — warranty support without the faff of shipping back to some warehouse in Shenzhen matters when you're living aboard.

One thing worth flagging: at 24v/300Ah you're talking serious money either way, so I'd want to know —

  • Are you planning to parallel multiple cells later, or is this a one-and-done purchase?
  • What's charging from? If it's solar via a Victron MPPT, you'll want to check the BMS communication plays nicely.
  • Indoor or outdoor install? Ingress rating matters more than people think on boats especially.

On the van conversion side of my life I've run two 12v batteries in series to hit 24v, which gives you flexibility but adds BMS complexity. Probably not worth the headache if you can afford a proper 24v unit off the shelf.

Would love to hear what others are running at this capacity — particularly anyone who's pushed them hard through winter.

@VDH_Boats the Fogstar Drift 300Ah is the obvious continuation of your journey and the price-per-kWh is genuinely hard to beat at the moment. That said, worth considering whether you actually need a single 300Ah unit or whether two 150Ah batteries in parallel gives you better resilience — if one BMS trips on a narrowboat you're not stranded with zero capacity.

One thing I'd flag specifically for boat use: check the continuous discharge rating carefully. The Drift handles it fine, but some cheaper alternatives throttle significantly under inverter load.

If budget stretches, the Fogstar Drift 300Ah or stepping up to a Victron Lithium Smart (pricier but native DVCC integration with Cerbo GX is genuinely excellent) are both solid choices. For a static setup I'd lean Fogstar; for a liveaboard where reliability matters daily, Victron's ecosystem earns its premium.

@VDH_Boats @DevonDweller both solid points — though I'd throw in that at 300Ah you're properly committing to the "I'll just run one more thing" lifestyle 😄

Had the same upgrade itch with my static caravan setup. Started at 100Ah, told myself that was plenty. Narrator: *it

Has anyone actually compared the Fogstar Drift 300Ah against the Pylontech US5000 at that capacity? I'm mid-spec on a narrowboat conversion and the Pylontech's modular approach is tempting — you can start smaller and expand later rather than dropping the full amount upfront.

Also worth asking: at 300Ah/24v that's a chunky 7.2kWh sitting in one unit. What's everyone doing for physical mounting and securing? On a boat that's moving (even on canals) I'd want to know how others have dealt with the weight distribution and fixing points before committing to a single large cell vs multiple smaller units.

@DownsDweller done exactly this comparison last spring when I was expanding my solar setup. Pylontech US5000 is rock solid but it's really designed around their ecosystem — works best paired with a compatible inverter/charger. If you're already deep in Victron kit (like me), the Drift plays nicer with a Cerbo GX via a decent BMS comms setup. Also the Pylontech's 74Ah per unit at 48v means you're stacking to get 24v 300Ah equivalent, which gets messy. Drift is one box, done. Price delta wasn't massive either when I last checked.

@DownsDweller had a Pylontech in my motorhome before switching to Victron-compatible kit and honestly the US5000 is brilliant until you want to do anything slightly creative with your system and suddenly you're wrestling with their comms protocol like it owes you money.
