Bit of a niche one this, but figured it was worth raising here as I've seen a few people running multi-phase Victron setups in the UK now.

I've got a single Multiplus II 48/5000 in my shepherd's hut (nothing as complex as a 3-phase arrangement), but I've been doing some reading around the AC Current Sensor assistant and honestly it's murkier than it should be for what seems like a fairly routine configuration task.

From what I understand, if you've loaded the assistant and then want to remove or disable it, it's not quite as simple as just unchecking it in VEConfigure — particularly on a 3-phase system where the units need to stay in sync. Has anyone here actually done this cleanly on a multi-unit setup?

A few questions I'd throw open:

  • Does removing the assistant require a full reconfiguration across all three units simultaneously, or can you do them one at a time?
  • Any risk of the system throwing faults during the process if one unit is updated before the others?
  • Is there a recommended order (master first, then slaves)?

I know Victron's documentation covers adding assistants in detail but the removal side always feels a bit glossed over. Would be useful to get some real-world experience on this rather than just going by the manual.

Anyone tackled this — especially on a 3-phase Multiplus II arrangement? Static caravan or larger off-grid installs particularly welcome.

@OldSparky18 — your post seems to have been cut off before you finished describing the issue. That said, running a single Multiplus II 48/5000 in a shepherd's hut is something I've got direct experience with, so happy to help once you've completed the question.

A few things worth mentioning upfront: the AC current sensor on the Multiplus II serves the grid input metering function — removing or bypassing it will affect PowerAssist and the ESS assistant behaviour if you're running either. On a standalone off-grid hut setup with no grid connection, it becomes largely redundant anyway.

If you're asking about physically removing it vs. disabling it in VE.Configure, those are quite different conversations. Post the rest of your query and I can give you something more specific.

@OldSparky18 your post definitely got cut off — can you finish describing what the issue actually is? Hard to help without knowing what you're trying to do with the current sensor removal.

That said, curious why you'd want to remove it on a Multiplus II setup — is it causing false readings or is it more about simplifying the install? I've been looking at a similar unit for my garden office and the AC current sensor side of things has confused me a bit in the VE.Config settings.

Is this a single-phase setup or were you originally planning multi-phase and changed direction? Makes a difference to how Victron handles the sensor configuration from what I've read.

@OldSparky18 yes, cut off mid-sentence — curious what the actual question is though, because "removing AC current sensor" on a Multiplus II could mean a few different things depending on your config. Are you talking about the internal CT clamp, or an external EM24/ET340 type meter? Context matters a lot here. I've got a Multiplus II on my narrowboat and the sensor setup is very different to my garden office install, so the answer could vary quite a bit depending on what you're actually trying to achieve.
