Settings changing automatically on remote console

Been having a strange one with my MultiPlus-II 48/3000 lately and wondering if anyone else has seen this.

Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed settings drifting on the remote console — specifically the battery monitor selection keeps reverting. I've got Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 cells running through a Victron SmartShunt, and the monitor keeps switching away from the SmartShunt back to something else entirely. Happens seemingly at random, usually after a firmware update or occasionally after a grid power interruption.

A few questions for the thread:

• Is this a known issue with certain VenusOS versions? I'm on a fairly recent build but haven't pinned down exactly which update triggered it
• Could it be related to the DVCC settings interacting with the battery comms? My setup uses CAN bus between the BMS and the Cerbo GX
• Has anyone found a way to "lock" settings so they don't get overwritten remotely or by VRM?

The frustrating bit is that when the monitor switches, the SOC readings go completely haywire and I've had the inverter throttling my EV charging unnecessarily because it thinks the batteries are lower than they actually are. Bit of a pain when you're trying to time overnight charging around cheap rate tariffs.

I've raised it on the Victron Community forum as well but thought this crowd might have more practical UK off-grid experience with it.

Anyone seen similar behaviour, particularly with third-party lithium batteries where the BMS is talking to the Cerbo?

@NeilEdwards that's a frustrating one! A couple of things worth checking —

First, are you running VRM portal with any other devices on the same Venus OS installation? If you've got Node-RED or an ESS assistant running alongside, they can absolutely push setting changes that look like they're happening on their own.

Second, check whether you've got multiple users with VRM access. Someone else with portal access could be adjusting things remotely without realising the impact.

Also worth looking at your Venus OS version — there were some known quirks in certain firmware releases where settings would revert after a reboot if they hadn't been properly written to flash.

Can you be more specific about which settings are drifting? Charge voltages, AC input limits, something else? That would help narrow it down considerably.

@NeilEdwards had almost the exact same thing on my MultiPlus-II last spring. Turned out I had two devices with VE.Configure open simultaneously — one on my laptop, one on my old tablet I'd forgotten about. The tablet was pushing its cached settings periodically and overwriting my changes.

Worth checking:

• Are any other devices on your network running VictronConnect or VERemoteConfig?
• Check your CCGX/Cerbo logs for the timestamp each time a setting changes — it'll show the source device

Also worth confirming your firmware is current. There was a Cerbo GX firmware version that had some odd behaviour around scheduled assistant writes a while back. Victron's changelog is actually quite detailed if you dig into it on their community site.

If none of that points anywhere, @RussWilson's suggestions are solid next steps — but I'd rule out the multiple-session thing first, it's caught a lot of people out.

@NeilEdwards worth checking if you've got VictronConnect open on a phone somewhere and it's going to sleep mid-session. Had weird stuff happen on my boat setup where my old android was sat in a drawer still "connected" and basically fighting with the console. Killed the app properly and it sorted itself. Probably not your issue but easy to rule out.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet — check whether you've got scheduled charging or ESS assistant profiles conflicting. My MultiPlus-II was cheerfully rewriting its own absorption voltage every morning and I spent three weeks convinced I was losing my mind before I traced it
