Shelly Plus 1 PM shows up in Venus OS. But not showing any watts on Dashboard AC loads

Ran into something very similar with my setup last month — Shelly Plus 1PM integrated into Venus OS via the Shelly integration plugin, showing up beautifully in Remote Console with proper voltage, current, and wattage readings. Everything looked healthy. But the Cerbo GX dashboard? Stubbornly blank under AC Loads. Maddening.

After a fair bit of head-scratching, I found the culprit was the role assignment. Even though I'd set it as "AC Outlet L1," Venus OS wasn't automatically surfacing that on the main dashboard tiles unless the device role was configured correctly within the plugin settings and the VRM portal had been given a nudge to refresh.

A few things worth checking:

• Plugin version — the Shelly integration has had several updates lately. Worth making sure you're on the latest via the Venus OS Large firmware package
• Role vs. Position — there's a subtle difference between assigning it as an AC load outlet versus an actual metered AC load input. Check the node configuration carefully
• VRM cache — sometimes a full Cerbo restart clears whatever ghost is haunting the dashboard display
• Single phase vs. split phase settings — if your system is configured oddly here it can suppress the display

I'm running a Victron Multiplus-II 48/3000 with a Cerbo GX, and once I sorted the role setting and did a clean reboot, it populated correctly on the dashboard within a couple of minutes.

Anyone else found specific firmware versions of Venus OS Large that handle the Shelly integration more reliably than others? I'm currently on 3.30 and it's been reasonably stable, but curious whether others have had better or worse luck.

One thing worth checking that hasn't been mentioned: make sure the Shelly is configured as an AC load in the plugin settings, not just discovered as a generic device. Venus OS needs the role explicitly assigned, otherwise it appears in Remote Console but won't feed into the dashboard AC loads tile.

On my narrowboat setup I had identical symptoms — device visible, watts showing zero on the dashboard. Toggling the role assignment in the plugin config sorted it immediately.

Also double-check your MQTT broker settings if you're running a custom one; sometimes the watt readings arrive on a slightly different topic path than Venus expects.

Sounds like the Shelly's happily reporting to Venus OS but nobody told the dashboard it's supposed to count — check your AC loads role assignment in the device instance settings, mine did exactly this until I realised the role was set to "Grid meter" instead of "AC load" like a complete muppet.

Had this exact issue on my motorhome setup last winter. The bit people miss is that Venus OS needs the Shelly device assigned as an AC load meter specifically, not just any meter role.

In the Remote Console go to:

Settings → System Setup → AC meter

...and explicitly set the Shelly as your AC loads measurement source. By default it registers as a generic meter and the dashboard power flow just ignores it for the load tile.

Also worth checking the Role setting within the Shelly plugin itself — options are typically Grid, Generator, AC Load, or PV Inverter. If it's sitting on the wrong role, Venus OS will happily display the raw data but won't pipe it into the correct dashboard calculation.

@DaveMoore70 is right that the dashboard doesn't know what to do with it — the Role assignment is precisely why.

Has anyone confirmed whether the Shelly Plus 1PM actually needs to be assigned a specific AC position in Venus OS settings, or is it purely a virtual device thing? I've got a static caravan setup and I'm tempted to add one of these for monitoring the mains hookup loads, but I'd want it showing properly on the dashboard before I bother.

@LuckyHiker when you say "assigned" — is that done through the Venus OS device list, or somewhere buried in the Shelly app itself?

Also worth checking: is your Venus OS on a Cerbo GX or something like a Raspberry Pi build? I've heard the plugin behaviour can differ slightly depending on the platform. Mine's a Cerbo and I'm never quite sure which issues apply to me and which don't.

@SmartSolarNerd yes, that's exactly it. Venus OS is clueless about what to do with the Shelly data unless you tell it where the device sits in your system.

In Remote Console go to Settings → System Setup → AC input monitor and make sure the Shelly's assigned as an AC load rather than just floating there looking pretty. Mine was doing the same thing on the boat — voltage and current reading fine, dashboard showing nowt for watts.

Took me an embarrassingly long time to find it. The Victron docs aren't exactly screaming this at you.
