Been mulling something similar over for my static caravan setup and it's sent me down a proper rabbit hole, so thought I'd bring it here.
We're on a single-phase supply (obviously, most UK domestic installs are), but I've got a friend with a small workshop unit on a 3-phase TPN board who wants to retrofit a Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000 on just one phase with ESS running through a Cerbo GX and ET340 meter. Critical loads shifted onto AC-out-1 — the usual approach.
The wrinkle is he's also got an EV with V2L capability and wants to manually plug that in as an additional backup source during a grid outage. So the question becomes — how does the MultiPlus actually behave when it's only covering one phase but the other two suddenly go dead? Does it just crack on with the critical loads, or does it get confused by the asymmetry?
And then layering V2L on top — has anyone actually done this? I'm imagining you'd need to isolate carefully before switching anything over, otherwise you're potentially backfeeding through the EV which nobody wants.
A few things I'm genuinely unsure about:
- Does ESS mode complicate the grid-outage detection on a partial 3-phase setup?
- Is a changeover/transfer switch on AC-in-1 sufficient, or do you need something smarter?
- Any UK-specific regs (BS 7671 amendment 3 etc.) that bite you here?
Anyone tackled something like this, even on a single-phase version? Feels like the narrowboat community might have relevant crossover experience too.
