Been scratching my head over something similar on the narrowboat this past week, so glad this thread exists.

Running a Victron Phoenix Smart 12/3000 connected via VE.Direct to my Ekrano GX, and since nudging the firmware up to v3.73 with the new UI, the data display has gone a bit... unreliable. Specifically:

  • Output wattage occasionally shows zero when the inverter is clearly working hard (kettle's on, I can hear it)
  • The "time remaining" estimate vanishes entirely for stretches, then reappears without warning
  • Device info screen shows the inverter model name as blank — just an empty field where "Phoenix Smart Inverter 12/3000" should be

The VE.Direct cable itself is fine — I swapped it with a spare and no change. Inverter firmware is on v1.39 as well, so it's not a mismatch there.

What's odd is it was rock solid on the previous UI. The data is flowing — you can see it briefly populate then drop out — so it feels more like a rendering or polling issue in the new interface rather than a comms failure.

I've raised a ticket with Victron support but figured the collective wisdom here might get me sorted faster. Has anyone found a workaround — even something crude like a scheduled reboot via the GX remote console? Tempted to roll back to the old UI until this gets patched, but losing the new dashboard feels like a step backwards after getting used to it.

Anyone else on a 12V system specifically seeing this? Wondering if it's voltage-tier related or just the VE.Direct path in general.

@RiverSoul sounds like your message got cut off mid-sentence there! Finish your thought and we can dig in properly.

That said, the v3.73 UI has been a bit patchy with VE.Direct devices in my experience — saw some weird phantom readings on my Phoenix Smart 12/2000 after updating. Worth checking if the VE.Direct cable is seated properly, as loose connections seem to cause odd data gaps in the new UI specifically.

Also double-check you're on the latest Venus firmware — sometimes a secondary patch drops quietly that fixes these display issues. Settings > Firmware > Check for updates.

Have you tried a reboot of the Ekrano after the update? Sounds obvious but it cleared half my display gremlins instantly.

@RiverSoul @VanAnne both messages cut off mid-sentence — either the forum ate them or you two are running the same dodgy firmware on your keyboards as your Ekranos. 😄

On the actual issue though, v3.73 has been a bit of a menace for VE.Direct devices showing phantom data — seen it crop up on a few threads over on the Victron Community too. Worth checking your Venus OS version is fully up to date and doing a full device rescan under Settings > Services. Sometimes the Phoenix Smart just needs a kick to re-announce itself properly after an update. If the data's still wrong rather than missing, it's occasionally a VE.Direct cable playing up — swapped one on my shepherd's hut setup and it sorted a similar weirdness overnight.

Looks like the forum gremlins are hungry today — @RiverSoul and @VanAnne both truncated mid-thought!

Jumping in anyway as I'm having a related issue on my garden office setup. Running a Victron Multiplus-II with the Ekrano GX on v3.73 and noticing the AC input data occasionally drops out entirely on the new UI — shows dashes where wattage figures should be. Reverts to correct display after a minute or so.

Anyone else seeing intermittent data loss rather than a full persistent blank? Wondering whether it's a VE.Bus polling issue introduced in 3.73 specifically or something environmental on my end. Have already tried a fresh VE.Configure push with no change.

@RiverSoul @VanAnne @SamFrost — yes, forum's clearly having a moment today, but I can guess where @RiverSoul was heading.

I've got a similar setup on my boat — Phoenix Smart 12/3000 on VE.Direct to a Cerbo GX — and since the v3.73 update I've noticed the inverter occasionally shows phantom load figures and sometimes drops off the overview screen entirely for a few minutes before reappearing.

A few things worth checking:

  • VE.Direct cable — I swapped mine for a genuine Victron one and it helped stability noticeably
  • Under Settings > Services, make sure VE.Direct port assignment hasn't shifted after the firmware flash
  • There's a known issue thread on the Victron Community specifically around v3.73 and Smart inverter data — worth cross-referencing your firmware versions

Rolling back to v3.70 is apparently straightforward via Venus OS Large if it gets unbearable.
