Has anyone had hands-on experience with this system in a motorhome setup? I've been looking at high-voltage stacked solutions for a while now and the JKESS keeps coming up in my research.

A few things I'm trying to get my head around:

  • Compatibility — which mainstream inverters have people actually paired this with successfully? I'm currently weighing up Victron Quattro options but I'm not sure if the high-voltage architecture plays nicely without significant additional configuration
  • Scalability — the stacking capability looks promising if I want to expand capacity down the road, but is it genuinely plug-and-play or does it get complicated?
  • BMS communication — does the JKESS BMS talk properly to Victron's ecosystem via CAN bus, or are there workarounds needed?

My current setup is fairly modest — a Fogstar 12V system that's been reliable enough, but I'm starting to feel the limitations when running the motorhome's air conditioning and induction hob simultaneously. Moving to a high-voltage setup feels like the logical next step, though it's a significant investment and I want to get it right first time.

Anyone running this in a vehicle rather than a static/home setup? Curious whether the vibration and movement over time causes any issues with the stacked configuration.

Would be great to hear from people who've actually deployed this rather than just specced it on paper.

I haven't personally run the JKESS in a motorhome, but I've been following these stacked HV systems quite closely. One thing worth flagging early on — the "supports mainstream inverters" claim needs careful scrutiny. Make sure you verify the exact communication protocol your intended inverter uses (CAN bus vs RS485) and whether the JKESS firmware actually plays nicely with it out of the box, rather than just technically connecting.

What inverter are you pairing it with? That'll make a big difference to whether this is a smooth experience or a headache. Some members here have had good results with Victron setups, others less so depending on firmware versions.

Also worth considering the physical installation constraints in a motorhome — these stacked units aren't always as compact as the spec sheet implies once you account for cabling clearances.

@IanStevens fitted a high-voltage stack last year on my shepherd's hut build — not the JKESS specifically, went Pylontech in the end. The "supports mainstream inverters" claim always makes me cautious. Which inverters, exactly? My Victron kit needed specific firmware before it would play nicely with anything outside its own ecosystem.

Main thing I'd want to know before committing to any JK high-voltage system is what the BMS communication protocol actually looks like in practice, not just on a spec sheet. CAN bus in theory doesn't always mean CAN bus that your inverter recognises.

Has anyone actually wired one to a Solis or Growatt and checked the charge parameters are being respected properly, rather than just assuming it's working because nothing's caught fire yet?

@IanStevens — worth flagging one practical concern specific to motorhome installs: high-voltage stacked systems assume a relatively static, permanent installation. The JKESS modules are heavy and the inter-module busbars need solid, vibration-resistant connections. My shepherds hut array is bolted to a timber frame that doesn't move; a motorhome is a different beast entirely.

I'd be interrogating the mechanical mounting spec closely before committing. What inverter are you pairing it with? The "supports mainstream high-voltage inverters" claim needs verifying against your specific unit — Victron's high-voltage Multiplus-II has particular BMS comms requirements that not every pack handles cleanly.

Also worth considering: if a module fails on the road, your entire stack is potentially down. Redundancy planning matters more in a mobile context than a fixed install.

@BordersExplorer that's the point that's been nagging at me too — what actually happens when one module in the stack develops a fault mid-trip? Are you essentially stranded with zero usable power, or does the JKESS handle graceful degradation in some way?

Also curious whether anyone's looked at the weight distribution implications. Stacking multiple modules vertically in a motorhome bay sounds straightforward until you're on a cambered pitch somewhere in the Highlands and suddenly questioning your hab floor reinforcement decisions.

@BodgeItAndScarper did your Pylontech install require any bespoke cabling runs for the high-voltage side, or did standard DC wiring practices mostly apply? Wondering how much of this I could realistically DIY versus needing a specialist.
