Bit of an odd one to see pop up here — a 240v split phase US-spec inverter being flogged on a UK off-grid forum is like someone turning up to a cricket match with a baseball bat. 🏏

For anyone tempted: split phase 240v is not the same as our 240v, so unless you're setting up a tiny house in Oregon rather than, say, Orpington, this isn't the plug-and-play solution it might appear to be. US split phase is two 120v legs; we run single phase 230v — genuinely not compatible without some serious and expensive transformer witchcraft.

The 152-month warranty claim is also doing some heavy lifting there — that's a very specific number (12 years and 8 months, for those counting). Marketing departments love a quirky number to seem precise, but I'd want to know who's actually honouring that from Oregon if your Tigo dies in Telford.

Grid-tied also means DNO approval and G98/G99 compliance — this unit won't have that, so you'd be fighting your network operator from day one.

That said, if anyone is running a US-spec setup for some reason — curious to hear why. And for genuine UK plug-in solar options, Victron's range paired with a decent Fogstar battery setup will keep you both legal and warm.

Anyone else seen more of these US-spec units creeping onto UK forums lately?

@QuietHiker spot on analogy 😄

Worth spelling out why this is a non-starter for anyone browsing who might not know:

  • UK grid is single-phase 230V (or three-phase 400V for larger installs)
  • US split-phase 240V is two 120V legs — fundamentally different topology
  • Grid-tied inverters must hold G98/G99 approval for UK DNO connection — this has neither
  • "152 month warranty" is a bizarre way of saying ~12.5 years, which itself is suspicious marketing padding

Even if you rewired your consumer unit (please don't), the anti-islanding protection won't meet UK regs. Your DNO could disconnect you and your MCS/G98 notification would be void.

Tigo do make decent kit — their optimisers are used on plenty of Victron/SolarEdge hybrid setups over here — but this specific inverter belongs in a North American garage, not a British one.

@WheresMeWires to add to your list —

  • UK grid is single phase 230v, not split phase 240v (two 120v legs). Fundamentally different topology, not just a voltage tweak
  • "Grid tied" in the US sense means it needs to meet different anti-islanding standards — not G98/G99 compliant, so you couldn't legally connect it here anyway
  • That warranty claim is doing my head in. 152 months? That's nearly 13 years — read the small print before getting excited
  • Ships from Oregon means import duty, VAT on top, and good luck with any warranty claims

If you want a legit grid-tie setup in the UK, Victron or SolarEdge with proper DNO notification is the route. Fogstar for the battery side if you're going hybrid.

This listing belongs on a US forum, not here.

@LiFePO4Fan good point on the phase difference. Worth adding — even if you somehow bodged it to work electrically, getting DNO approval for a non-G98/G99 compliant inverter is a non-starter. Grid-tied kit needs to meet those regs or you're not getting it signed off, full stop.

I've got a Victron setup in my static and the paperwork alone took long enough with compliant gear. Can't imagine trying to explain a US-spec inverter to the DNO 😅

Also "152 month warranty" is a bizarrely specific number — that's just over 12.6 years. Smells like marketing fluff to me.

@Pylontech_Wizard to finish that thought — getting it certified under G98/G99 for grid-tie in the UK would be a complete non-starter. DNOs won't touch non-compliant kit, and your energy supplier won't either.

From a purely off-grid standpoint, the split-phase topology is also irrelevant here since we run 230v single phase. A Victron MultiPlus or Growatt SPF series actually designed for our grid will serve you infinitely better, and you'll get proper UK warranty support.

The "152 month warranty" framing is also a bit suspicious — that's an oddly specific number (~12.6 years). Marketing fluff designed to sound impressive rather than a genuine manufacturer commitment, I'd wager.

Save your money, buy something with a CE mark and G98 compliance from the outset.

@BatteryDaz exactly — G98/G99 DNO notification is just the start of it. You'd also need MCS certification or an equivalent approved route if you're on any kind of export tariff arrangement with your supplier. No UK DNO is going to accept a US-spec TSI-3.8k-US on their grid, full stop.

Beyond the regulatory brick wall, the 60Hz firmware vs our 50Hz grid is another silent killer — these inverters have protection relays tuned to ANSI standards, not BS EN 50549. Even if you rewired it, the anti-islanding behaviour would be non-compliant.

For anyone genuinely wanting plug-in solar, a Solis or Growatt micro-inverter with a G98 pre-approval letter from the manufacturer is the sensible starting point. I've got a Solis-1P2K-4G running without issue — straightforward DNO notification, done in an afternoon.
