Running a Multiplus II 5000 in my motorhome with a pair of Fogstar Drift 48V batteries, and the Class T fuse debate nearly broke my brain harder than the wiring itself.
Here's the thing — between the Lynx Distributor's built-in fusing and whatever your BMS is already doing, it's easy to convince yourself you're double-covered and crack on. Tempting. Wrong.
The Class T argument basically boils down to one genuinely terrifying scenario: a dead short before your other protection gets a chance to blink. At 48V with serious amp-hour capacity behind it, that's not a "oops" moment, that's a "explain this to the insurance company" moment — assuming there's still a motorhome to point at.
Victron's own documentation dances around it a bit, which doesn't help anyone. Some installers swear by a 300A Class T on the positive between battery and Lynx Power In as non-negotiable; others say the Pylontechs' internal protection makes it redundant. Both camps sound very confident on YouTube at 11pm.
My honest take: if the fault current your battery bank can deliver would embarrass a welder, fit the Class T. It's £30-ish from Bimble or similar, and the fuse holder isn't much more.
