Been eyeing these Vatrer units up for a while now. The self-heating function is what's got my attention — my static caravan sits unused through the coldest months and I've had grief with standard LiFePO4 refusing to charge when temps drop below freezing. Had to bodge together a heat mat solution last winter which wasn't ideal.
The 300A BMS is impressive on paper but I'd want to know how it handles sustained loads rather than just peak. Anyone actually stress-tested one over a full season?
The cooling fan is an interesting addition — not seen that on many units at this price point. Presumably kicking in during heavy discharge cycles? Would be good to know the trigger temp.
A few things I'm not clear on:
- How does the self-heating draw compare to something like a Fogstar Drift with an external heater blanket?
- Is the BMS communication compatible with Victron kit via the usual CAN/VE.Can setup, or are we back to dumb battery territory?
- Build quality on the casing — anyone had one apart?
I've got a 200Ah Fogstar setup in the shepherd's hut that I'm reasonably happy with, but looking to upsize the static caravan bank significantly and an all-in-one solution is tempting if the quality stacks up.
Keen to hear from anyone who's been running these for more than a few months rather than just unboxing impressions. Real world data always tells a different story.
