Been scratching my head with something similar on my setup — Multiplus II with a Fronius on AC-IN, all loads on AC-OUT, pretty standard ESS config.
What I'm seeing in Venus OS is the grid figure looking suspiciously high even when the Fronius is pumping out decent wattage. Almost like the dashboard is bundling some of the solar generation into the grid reading rather than showing them separately. Anyone else noticed this?
My AC-IN limit is capped at 16A (standard UK ring main territory) and I'm fairly confident the grid isn't actually pulling anywhere near what Venus is displaying. The Fronius data in the device list looks sane, but the main overview screen tells a different story.
Few things I've ruled out so far:
- It's not a CT clamp orientation issue
- Fronius is properly detected via SunSpec/Modbus
- Venus OS is up to date (running 3.x)
My suspicion is it's a display/calculation bug where Venus adds the Fronius output to the grid import rather than offsetting it — so you end up seeing inflated grid numbers. Fogstar and Victron forums have hinted at this being a known quirk but I haven't found a clean fix yet.
Has anyone managed to sort this with a config tweak, or is it purely cosmetic and the actual ESS logic is still working correctly underneath? Keen to know if changing the grid meter setup in Venus makes any difference — or whether it's just something we live with.
