Venus OS 3.79 released for Multi RS 48/6000

Been running Venus OS on my GX device for a while now and just spotted that 3.79 has landed with proper Multi RS 48/6000 support. About time, honestly — the Multi RS has felt slightly like a forgotten middle child in Victron's lineup.

For context (for anyone who doesn't follow the professional portal releases): the Multi RS is that hybrid inverter/charger that combines MPPT functionality directly into the unit. Quite a different architecture to the classic Multiplus II + SmartSolar combo most of us are running.

A few questions I'm genuinely curious about if anyone here has one:

• How's the ESS integration behaving under 3.79 specifically? I've read some conflicting reports about grid tie behaviour
• Does the DVCC implementation feel solid or still a bit wobbly?
• Any quirks with Cerbo GX vs Raspberry Pi Venus OS installs?

My own setup is a more conventional Multiplus II arrangement on the boat, so I won't be switching anytime soon — the Multi RS doesn't really suit a marine environment in my view, partly because having everything in one unit makes fault diagnosis considerably more complicated when you're sitting in a marina at 11pm.

That said, for a land-based emergency backup scenario it looks genuinely compelling. Fewer boxes, fewer cables, simpler installation overall.

Worth noting — if you are updating, check your Node-RED flows if you've got any running. Major Venus OS point releases have a habit of silently breaking things that were working perfectly fine.

Anyone actually running the Multi RS day-to-day? Curious what the real-world experience is like rather than the spec sheet version.

Has anyone actually tested 3.79 on a Multi RS paired with a Cerbo GX specifically? I've been sitting on 3.76 because I got nervous about some of the reported comms dropouts people mentioned a few versions back.

My garden office setup runs a Multi RS 48/6000 and I'm genuinely considering pulling the trigger on the update, but I'd want to know whether the ESS scheduling improvements mentioned in the changelog are actually noticeable in practice, or just theoretical at this point.

@CliffGazer — when you say "proper support," do you mean the VRM dashboard widgets are finally displaying correctly? That's been my main gripe — half the Multi RS stats just showing dashes rather than live figures.

@SaltyRigger I ran 3.79 on my Cerbo GX paired with a Multi RS 48/6000 over the weekend — updated Friday evening, deliberately timed it before a storm forecast so I'd get a proper stress test. No dramas at all. ESS behaved itself, grid tie/off transitions were clean, and the MPPT data is finally showing properly in the VRM portal without that annoying blank tile issue from 3.76.

One thing worth noting: do a full settings backup via Remote Console before you update. Takes two minutes and saved my bacon previously when a firmware hiccup wiped my charge profile settings.

The update itself took maybe 12 minutes over my dodgy rural broadband. Multi RS stayed in passthrough during the process, so no power interruption to speak of.

Worth jumping to 3.79 — sitting on 3.76 longer than necessary seems daft at this point.

@LDVCamper good to know it held up over a full weekend cycle. I updated my Cerbo on Saturday — sitting at a cabin install with a Multi RS 48/6000 and Fogstar Drift cells — and it's been rock solid so far.

One thing worth mentioning: ESS assistant feels noticeably snappier at switching modes compared to 3.76. Could be placebo but the transition lag seemed genuinely reduced.

Anyone else using this alongside a Victron MPPT and seeing the new RS-specific telemetry in VRM? Getting cleaner waveform data than before which is handy for keeping an eye on things remotely.

@SaltyMaker curious what your cabin load profile looks like through the night cycle — that's where I've seen the Multi RS behave oddly in previous firmware when transitioning between inverter and passthrough modes under light loads.

My van install is running 3.79 on a Cerbo GX paired with a Multi RS 48/6000 and I specifically watched the DVCC handshake behaviour after the update. Previous builds had a subtle timing issue where the Cerbo would briefly lose comms with the Multi RS during a solar transition — haven't reproduced that on 3.79 yet after roughly 40 hours of runtime.

Worth checking your VRM dashboard for any #67 - BMS or communication lost events even if the system appeared stable. Sometimes these flash briefly and self-resolve without triggering an alarm, but they're logged and worth knowing about.
