Running a MultiPlus-II 12/3000 on my static caravan setup, so this topic is close to home.

The low battery warning on these units is something I wrestled with for a good few months when I first got mine running. The thing is, Victron's factory defaults are quite conservative — the low battery cutoff and warning thresholds are tuned for lead-acid, so if you've migrated to lithium (I'm on a 280Ah Fogstar Drift bank), those numbers need revisiting in VictronConnect before anything makes sense.

What caught me out specifically was the dynamic cutoff settings. The MultiPlus-II is clever enough to account for voltage sag under load, but if your thresholds aren't dialled in for lithium's flatter discharge curve, it'll cry wolf constantly — especially when you're pulling anything significant through the inverter side.

A few things worth checking if you're seeing phantom low-battery warnings:

  • Battery capacity setting — is it correctly entered for your actual usable capacity?
  • Low battery shutdown voltage — should typically sit around 11.5–11.8V for lithium, not the 10.5V lead-acid default
  • Charge algorithm — are you on a proper lithium profile, or still on the default?

Also worth asking: is your BMS communicating with the MultiPlus via a VE.Bus BMS or DVCC setup? Because if the BMS is pulling the charge disconnect line, the inverter will interpret that as a low battery condition regardless of your settings.

Would be curious what battery brand others are pairing with theirs — there's quite a spread of experiences depending on how chatty the BMS is.

Had the same headache on my narrowboat when I first wired mine up.

The key thing I found was that the low battery warning threshold is set in VE.Configure, not on the unit itself — easy to miss if you're poking around expecting physical dials.

On a 12V system with LiFePO4 (running Fogstar Drift cells here) I've got mine set to warn at 12.0V with a 5 min delay to avoid false alarms from momentary voltage sag under load.

If you're still on lead-acid the thresholds are quite different — you'd want to warn earlier, maybe 11.8V, as you genuinely can't push them as low.

Worth connecting via VictronConnect over Bluetooth first just to see where your current thresholds sit before changing anything in VE.Configure.

Does anyone know whether the low battery warning threshold on the MultiPlus-II can actually be adjusted through VictronConnect, or do you need a full VE.Configure setup via the MK3-USB interface to do it properly?

I've got one on my narrowboat and I keep getting premature warnings that don't match what my Victron BMV-712 is reporting. Wondering if the inverter's voltage sensing is just less accurate than the dedicated shunt-based monitoring, or if there's a calibration issue I should be looking at.

Also — does the threshold setting behave differently depending on whether you've got the unit set to Li or Pb battery type? Swapped from AGM to Fogstar Drift lithium last season and I'm not 100% sure I updated every relevant setting after the changeover.

@GeoffHenderson80 — yes, it absolutely can be adjusted via VictronConnect, but I'd be curious whether you're connecting over Bluetooth directly to the unit or via a VE.Bus Smart Dongle? My understanding is that certain parameters are only accessible through VEConfigure rather than the standard VictronConnect app, and I'm not entirely sure which category the low battery threshold falls into.

Also, is there a distinction being made here between the low battery shutdown voltage and the low battery warning voltage? Because those are two separate parameters, aren't they? I want to make sure we're not conflating them — particularly relevant if you're running LiFePO4 cells like my Fogstar Drift 100Ah, where the voltage curve behaves quite differently to lead-acid in the lower state-of-charge range.

@GeoffHenderson80 yes, VictronConnect does it but you'll get more granular control through VEConfigure (now called VictronConnect VE.Bus setup). Done it on my MultiPlus in the motorhome — you're looking at the Dynamic Cut-off settings rather than a single threshold. It curves based on load, which is actually clever once you understand it.

Default settings are conservative. If you're running Fogstar or similar lithium, you can tighten the lower end considerably without stressing the cells.

@FormerMariner1 USB-to-MK3 interface is what you need to connect to the VE.Bus port for the full settings. VictronConnect alone on Bluetooth won't expose everything on older firmware.
