Had this exact issue last summer with my 100/30. Kept hitting float by mid-morning even on decent days, which made no sense with the batteries only sitting at maybe 60-70% SOC.
Turned out my absorption voltage was set too low — I'd just left it on the default Li profile but my Fogstar Drift cells wanted something slightly different. Worth double-checking your voltage settings against your battery manufacturer's spec rather than trusting the defaults.
Few other things worth checking:
- Battery temperature — if you've got a BMV or Smart Shunt with a temp sensor, make sure it's actually feeding data to the MPPT via VE.Smart networking. Mine wasn't paired properly and the temp compensation was doing weird things
- Tail current setting — this one catches people out. If your tail current % is set too high, it'll declare absorption done way before the battery's actually full
- Wiring resistance — voltage drop between controller and battery can fool the MPPT into thinking voltage is higher than it is
Spent an afternoon on VictronConnect going through all of it. The history graphs are brilliant for diagnosing — you can see exactly when it's transitioning and whether the absorption time looks right.
What battery chemistry are you running? Makes a big difference to where the issue might be. Lead acid and lithium behave completely differently when it comes to absorption termination.
Anyone else got thoughts on this? Curious whether it's more common with certain battery brands.
