Had a similar head-scratcher with my Multiplus 2 when I finally got round to fitting it in the shepherd's hut — bought it, shoved it in a cupboard for 18 months because life, and when I eventually wired it up properly it threw a temperature fault almost immediately.
Turned out the unit had been sitting in an unheated barn through two winters and the internal thermistor was reading ambient as some wildly incorrect value until it normalised. A few hours powered up and it sorted itself, but it had me convinced I'd somehow borked the install.
Worth checking a few things if you're seeing the same:
- Ventilation clearances — Victron are fussy about this, minimum 10cm each side isn't just a suggestion
- Ambient temp at install — if your battery compartment is cold, the Multiplus can be oversensitive until everything equilibrates
- VE.Configure — connect via MK3-USB and check whether the temperature sensor input is actually enabled/configured correctly for your setup
- Battery temp sensor — if you're running one, a dodgy connection reads as a fault rather than just "no sensor"
The 3000VA 12v is a chunky unit for 12v — what battery bank are you running with it? Asking because I've seen them thermal-limit hard when the bank can't sustain the discharge current, which presents as a temperature error but is really a voltage compensation issue under load.
Anyone else had these sit in storage and then misbehave on first power-up? Curious whether it's a common thing or I just have terrible luck with timing.
