Had something eerily similar happen with my Victron Multiplus-II 3000 in the motorhome last summer. Pushed too many loads simultaneously — induction hob, air conditioning, and the EV charger trickle feed all competing — and tripped it hard into overload protection.
The bit that caught me out was exactly what you're describing: after the overload, the unit refused to go back into charge mode. The inverter side came back fine, but charging was just dead. No blinking lights suggesting a fault per se, just... nothing happening on the charge side.
What actually sorted it for me was a full power cycle sequence — not just the front panel switch, but physically disconnecting DC and AC in the right order:
- Disconnect AC input first
- Wait 60 seconds
- Disconnect DC (battery side)
- Wait another 2-3 minutes
- Reconnect DC, then AC
The BMS interaction is the tricky bit. If your BMS had latched into a protective state during the overload event, the Multiplus may be seeing the battery as "not ready" even after the BMS has nominally reset. Worth checking in VictronConnect whether the charger is actually seeing the battery voltage correctly, or whether it's sitting at 0V on the input — that's a telltale sign the BMS DVcc handshake hasn't re-established.
Are you running these ACE batteries with a Cerbo GX or any other comms link, or is it a standalone setup? That changes the diagnosis considerably.
