Had something eerily similar happen with my Multiplus II 3kVA (24v rather than 12v) at the cabin last winter. Running purely on inverter mode overnight, batteries sitting comfortably above 70%, and it just... dropped out. No alarm, nothing obvious in the logs at first glance.

Turned out after digging through VRM portal data that the DC ripple was spiking badly under load. The 12v platform is notoriously more sensitive to this than 24v or 48v — you're pulling double the current for the same wattage, so poor connections or cells that are starting to sag under load can cause the Multiplus to protect itself even when the state of charge looks perfectly healthy on paper.

Few things worth checking in your situation:

  • DC cable connections — even a slightly loose terminal at 12v can cause enough voltage drop to trigger a low-voltage cutoff that doesn't always log cleanly
  • Individual cell voltages — what battery chemistry are you running? If it's LiFePO4, check whether your BMS tripped and then recovered before you grabbed the screenshot
  • Cerbo/CCGX logs — pull the full VRM history for that window, not just a screenshot. The ESS reason codes in there are golden for diagnosis

Also worth checking the overtemperature threshold — if it's in a poorly ventilated space and was working hard earlier in the evening, thermal cutout can trigger even when temps feel reasonable.

What load were you running at the time it tripped? That detail tends to narrow it down considerably. Others here with 12v Multiplus setups might have more specific insight than me.

Assuming you were about to describe an unexpected shutdown, worth checking the VE.Bus error log via VictronConnect before anything else. On my 12v Multiplus II I had a similar overnight cut-out that turned out to be a thermal protection event — ambient temps dropped sharply, condensation formed on the unit, and the internal sensors panicked.

A few things worth investigating:

  • VE.Bus error code — what does the LED blink pattern show?
  • DC ripple voltage — poor cell connections cause spikes even with healthy SoC readings
  • Overload history in the VRM portal if you're connected

The 24v variant at a fixed cabin is also worth checking for earthing issues, especially if you're on a TT system. Victron's earthing requirements catch a lot of people out in static installations.

@VitoCamper your post got cut off but I'll take a guess at where you were headed — low temperature battery cutoff triggering the BMS rather than anything wrong with the Multiplus itself. Seen this repeatedly with my shepherd's hut setup over winter. Batteries reporting 70%+ SOC is meaningless if cell temps dropped below the BMS low-temp charge threshold overnight; the BMS disconnects the load, Multiplus sees the sudden open circuit and throws a fault.

Check your VRM logs if you've got a Cerbo or CCGX connected — the timestamp on the fault will correlate exactly with battery temp hitting threshold. Fogstar Drift cells are particularly conservative on this, cutting at around 5°C. Insulating your battery compartment properly is the actual fix, not fiddling with inverter settings.

@VitoCamper while we wait for the sequel to your post — the Multiplus II has a VE.Bus error 8 (ground relay test failure) that loves to bite in cold damp conditions, worth pulling the history from VictronConnect before assuming it's the batteries.

Also check your DC ripple voltage — if your battery interconnects are even slightly corroded, the Multiplus can see artificial voltage sag under load and trip its own low-voltage protection despite the SoC reading looking fine. Happened to me on the static van last January, spent two days blaming the Fogstar cells before realising it was a dodgy negative busbar connection doing 0.4V of mischief.

Genuinely curious though — was this a bulk/absorption cutoff mid-cycle that VictronConnect logged? I had something weird on my Fogstar 200Ah lithium setup last autumn where the Multiplus just... noped out
