Had almost exactly this with my garden office setup last year. The Multiplus was screaming low battery at me but the BMS was showing 51.2V on a 48V system — looked perfectly healthy on the face of it.
Turned out the issue was voltage sag under load. The resting voltage was fine but the moment I kicked on anything substantial, it was dropping enough under load to trip the alarm threshold. The Victron was seeing a momentary dip that the BMS display wasn't really capturing properly because it wasn't sampling fast enough.
Few things worth checking:
- DC cable sizing — undersized cables create resistance and exaggerate voltage drop under load
- Battery connections — even slightly loose terminals will cause this, more than people realise
- The low battery alarm threshold in VEConfigure — it may have been set too conservatively from factory or a previous owner
You can tweak the alarm and shutdown thresholds in VEConfigure (or VictronConnect depending on your unit). Worth connecting up and actually watching what the DC input voltage does during load rather than at rest. The difference can be surprising.
What battery chemistry are you running and what's your typical load? If you're on LiFePO4 with a Fogstar or similar, the BMS itself could also be doing something odd at the comms level if you've got it talking to the Multiplus via DVCC.
