Had almost exactly this scenario last summer when I was commissioning the garden office setup. Microwave was the one appliance that kept bringing everything to its knees.
The culprit in my case was the inrush current on startup — microwaves are notorious for it. Even a modest 800W unit can spike to 3-4x that for a split second when the magnetron fires up.
A few things worth checking:
- What's your Multiplus rated at? The 12/3000 and 24/3000 variants handle inrush very differently in my experience
- Battery cable gauge and length — undersized cables mean voltage sag under load, which can trigger the Multiplus protection circuits before the inverter even gets a chance to cope
- SOC at time of tripping — if your bank is sitting below 50%, it'll struggle to deliver peak current without the BMS or the Victron itself pulling the plug
I ended up tweaking the AC input current limit and the dynamic current limiter settings in VictronConnect, which made a surprising difference. Also worth looking at the transfer switch settings if you're running any shore power alongside it.
One thing I'd genuinely try first though — pop your microwave on a different circuit temporarily and see if it's purely the startup spike or something else going on with your wiring.
What battery chemistry are you running? AGM here obviously (hence the username 😄), and they're not always thrilled about sudden high-current demands. Lithium folk tend to have an easier time with this sort of thing.
