Mine did exactly this until I realised the Victron was mounted upside down in a warm cabinet — thermal throttling is a sneaky beast when you're doing 70mph on the M6 for three hours straight.
Few things worth checking before you pull your hair out:
- Ambient temp around the unit — these things need proper airflow, not a cosy blanket of engine heat
- Input voltage sag — if your alternator's struggling, the Orion gets twitchy
- Firmware — Victron Connect will tell you if you're running something ancient; mine had a dodgy build that sorted itself after an update
- Smart alternator detection — if you've got a Euro 6 engine with a variable voltage alternator, the Orion can convince itself the vehicle's off when it absolutely isn't
Worth pulling the history log from Victron Connect too — it'll show you exactly why it tripped rather than just shrugging at you.
Anyone else found the mounting orientation actually makes a meaningful difference, or was that just my particular install being daft?
