Been having a similar issue with mine on the boat. The Orion XS 50A is set up charging my leisure bank from the starter battery, and I've noticed it consistently stops a few percent short of what I'd expect — showing around 95% on the Victron app rather than hitting a proper full absorption cycle.
A few things I've been wondering about:
- Is the input voltage drooping? If the alternator isn't keeping the starter battery topped up fast enough, the Orion might be throttling back to protect it
- Battery chemistry settings — I'm running Fogstar Drift 100Ah LiFePO4 and had to make sure the charge profile actually matched the BMS parameters, not just the generic Victron LFP preset
- Temperature compensation — does yours have a temp sensor fitted? Mine behaved oddly until I sorted that
One thing I did find useful was enabling the "charger only" mode via VictronConnect and watching the input/output voltage logs during a proper run. Made it much easier to spot where the limiting factor actually was.
What's your setup — are you running lithium or AGM on the receiving end? And is this a fixed install or something like a van where the engine run time is fairly short?
Curious whether others on here have seen the same behaviour, because I've seen a few threads suggesting the XS 50A is more sensitive to input voltage than the older Orion-Tr Smart. Would be good to know if there's a firmware thing going on or whether it's just how these units work in real-world conditions.
