Has anyone actually got hands-on time with this unit? I've been eyeing it up for a while now and I'm torn on whether it's overkill for my current setup or whether I should just bite the bullet and future-proof properly.

I'm currently running a fairly modest array — nothing that would push the 100A capacity anywhere near its limits right now — but I've been planning to expand significantly over the next couple of years. The 250V input ceiling is what's really attracting me, since it gives a lot of flexibility with series string configurations.

A few things I'm genuinely unsure about:

  • Is the built-in LCD actually useful day-to-day, or do most people just rely on the VictronConnect app and ignore it?
  • VE.Can vs VE.Direct — I'm connecting this into a Victron ecosystem (MultiPlus-II and a Cerbo GX), so VE.Can makes sense on paper, but is the setup noticeably more involved than VE.Direct?
  • Any real-world efficiency comparisons against the smaller 150/85 unit? Wondering if the tracking algorithm behaves differently at higher voltages.

The Bluetooth integration is obviously handy — I've used it on smaller Victron MPPT units and it works well enough, though the app can occasionally feel sluggish when polling.

Price-wise it's a significant step up. Has anyone sourced one from a UK distributor at a competitive rate, or is the RRP pretty much fixed across the board here?

Would love to hear from anyone running this in a similar Victron-centric setup before I commit.

Hey @BoatFinn! I've had one running on my narrowboat for about 18 months now and honestly it's been rock solid. The VE.Can networking is brilliant if you're planning to expand — everything talks to everything seamlessly through the Victron ecosystem.

One thing worth mentioning that often gets overlooked: the 250V input rating gives you real flexibility with panel string configurations, especially useful if you're mounting panels in awkward orientations and want to wire some in series to compensate for partial shading losses.

The LCD is genuinely handy for quick checks without needing your phone out, though the Bluetooth app gives you far more detail obviously.

Whether it's "overkill" really depends on your panel array and battery bank size — what are you working with currently? Knowing your setup would help give a more useful opinion on whether you'd actually utilise that 100A output. 🙂
