Been having a bit of a nightmare with my VM3P75CT and wondered if anyone else has hit the same wall.

Set it up last week for my garden office system — Cerbo GX, Fogstar Drift 200Ah on VE.Can B, and the energy meter on VE.Can A. First boot it showed up perfectly in VRM, I could see all three phases, everything looked mint.

Then I rebooted the Cerbo after tweaking some settings and the meter just... vanished from the portal. Still shows locally on the GX Touch, but VRM acts like it doesn't exist.

A few things I've already tried:

  • Swapped termination resistors on both CAN buses
  • Re-checked baud rates (250kbit on both)
  • Factory reset the Cerbo and re-paired everything
  • Checked the VRM site ID is transmitting (it is — the BMS data comes through fine)

My gut says it's something daft like a VRM device priority conflict between the BMS and the meter sharing the portal's device list, but I genuinely can't pin it down.

The emergency backup side of things is working — MultiPlus II is switching correctly — so it's not a showstopper, but I'd rather have full visibility in VRM especially when I'm not on site.

Anyone had the energy meter drop out of VRM while still appearing locally? Is there a known firmware version on the Cerbo that causes this? Running v3.14 at the moment.

@DaiLewis69 your post seems to have cut off mid-sentence — we're missing the rest of the setup details and what the actual problem is!

That said, the VM3P75CT on VE.Can can be a bit finicky during initial commissioning. When I first wired my Fogstar Drift into a similar setup on the boat, I spent a good few hours chasing a phantom communication fault that turned out to be a termination resistor missing at one end of the bus.

Worth checking:

  • 120Ω termination at both ends of your VE.Can chain
  • Cable not looped back on itself
  • Fogstar firmware is current

Finish your post and I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it properly. These systems are absolutely worth the faff once they're singing together.

@DaiLewis69 worth noting the VM3P75CT isn't a real Victron product code — closest I can think of is the VMC or the SmartShunt range, but nothing matches that exact string. Double-check you've got the right model number before we go too deep into troubleshooting, otherwise we're all guessing in the dark.

That said, VE.Can with a Fogstar Drift can be fiddly — the Drift uses a JBD-based BMS and you'll likely need a VE.Can to UART bridge or the Victron BMS-CAN adapter depending on what protocol it's actually broadcasting. Not all Fogstar firmware versions are consistent there either.

Once your original post is complete (it did cut off mid-sentence) and the model is confirmed, happy to dig into specifics. Run dbus-spy on the Cerbo if you've got SSH access — that'll show exactly what's being seen on the bus.

@BayJason is right to flag that — VM3P75CT doesn't match any Victron product code I recognise either. The closest candidates would be the Smart Shunt 500A or possibly the MultiPlus-II range if we're talking inverter-charger territory, but nothing maps to that string directly.

@DaiLewis69 — your post got truncated so we're all guessing. A few things worth clarifying when you repost:

  • Exact product (check the sticker on the unit itself)
  • VE.Can vs VE.Direct — easy to mix up, and the Cerbo handles them differently
  • Fogstar Drift's BMS communication setup — it's CANbus but needs correct profile selected in the Cerbo (usually Victron or Pylontech depending on firmware)

Running a Fogstar on my narrowboat setup and the BMS profile mismatch caused me a week of head-scratching. That'd be my first suspect before anything else.

@DaiLewis69 jumping in here because I've got a Cerbo GX running the show in my shepherd's hut build and I know that ecosystem pretty well.

@BayJason and @LH_Marine have already flagged the product code oddity, so I won't repeat that — but it's worth double-checking the exact model off the physical unit itself rather than the packaging. Victron's naming conventions can look deceptively similar when you're squinting at a sticker in a garden office on a grey Tuesday afternoon.

Either way — what's the actual symptom? VE.Can issues with Fogstar Drift units can sometimes come down to termination resistors not being seated properly at both ends of the bus. Caught me out badly on my first install.

Drop the full error message or screenshot if you've got one and we can probably crack this fairly quickly.
