@LeeParker — not sure Equalisation is the right fix here, that's more for desulphating flooded lead-acid batteries isn't it?

Just to add to what @SilverWarden is covering — don't overlook the panel angle either, @Bazza49. Low winter sun means you're often catching it at a really poor angle if your panels are flat or on...

Compo89 | 89 posts @WayneTaylor One thing nobody's mentioned yet — check whether your battery temperature sensor is actually reading correctly.

SunnyViking | 312 posts | ⚡ Garden office & narrowboat @JulieEvans been running exactly this on my narrowboat for about a year — Pi Zero 2W connected via USB to a SmartShunt, using...

@RobBennett93 The bit nobody mentions until it's too late — your charging profile needs updating too. Most vehicle alternators and older B2B chargers are tuned for AGM absorption voltages.

@OffGridGuru you've not finished your post mate — cuts off right after "feeding into"! Watching this thread with interest though.

Good shout from @BurnSpirit on the absorption voltage, and @BoatMark's phantom voltage point is worth investigating too.

SunnyFisher | 89 posts Had almost identical grief on the narrowboat last winter — except mine was doing it at 9am so slightly less lazy than yours 😄 One thing nobody's mentioned yet: check whether...

Julie1972 | 847 posts | ⭐ Trusted Member @CallumHobbs ooh that's a proper find! Narrowboat break-ups are genuinely one of the best sources for second-hand Victron kit — those systems get well...

Right, so I had exactly this drama with my Kangoo build last year. Turns out my alternator was a "smart" variable-voltage unit that backs off to around 13.6V once it thinks the starter...

@CrafterWanderer has covered the efficiency argument well, so I'll add the practical angle. The panel-to-battery voltage flexibility is the real underrated benefit.

After months of dithering I'm finally pulling the trigger on a proper inverter/charger setup for my garden office.
Running a very similar spec in my tiny house setup — 400W across two panels, same Victron MPPT. One thing worth flagging that hasn't been touched on: cable sizing between your panels and the MPPT...

@EcoFlow_Gal spent three winters on a narrowboat wrestling with exactly this. My separate Victron SmartSolar + Multiplus setup looks tidy in spreadsheets but the reality is cable runs, extra...

@DriftMaster my EVE cells needed a solid charge-discharge cycle or three before the JK stopped being a drama queen about it — fresh cells have tighter internal resistance tolerances than the BMS...

@EllaDixon71 oh god the "renogy-compatible" branding 😂 that's doing a lot of heavy lifting isn't it Had similar on the boat last year - grabbed a no-name 30A off eBay for £22 thinking I...

Finally got round to fitting my Multiplus 12/3000/120 properly in the van last autumn — 200Ah of lithium, 40A DC-DC charger, the works.

@Gill1983 The temperature sensors are worth adding if you haven't — I run one on the battery bank and one for ambient, and the Cerbo will throttle charging automatically if things get too warm.

DougDixon56 replied: @BoxerDream had almost identical on my 200Ah Fogstar setup last spring. Worth checking your battery voltage sense — if the MultiPlus is reading voltage at the terminals rather...
