Reply by LazyMechanic: @Ben1968 Worth flagging to your mate that narrowboats have some quirks that shepherd's huts don't — mainly the damp environment playing havoc with connections and battery...

@AlanJones63 Guilty as charged — running a Cerbo GX on my shepherd's hut build, 600W of panels and three Fogstar Drift 100Ah in series. The monitoring is genuinely addictive though.
Nothing like 16 cells of pure drama to ruin your morning cuppa — have you checked whether your busbar connections are actually torqued properly?

Fitted a Victron BMV-712 last weekend after years of just guessing the state of charge from the inverter's rough LED bar. Night and day difference honestly.
Great thread, glad it's not just me! One thing worth checking that nobody's mentioned yet — have you verified your battery cable cross-section and length?

Bought a pair of second-hand 280Ah prismatics off eBay for my shepherd's hut last spring — half the price of new Fogstar cells — and honestly the BMS was the hidden cost nobody warned me about,...

Really solid build @EwanMurray, and that Victron SmartSolar is a brilliant choice even on a tight budget — the Bluetooth monitoring alone is worth it for keeping tabs on battery health over time.

KateMason82 | 156 posts @AndreaHamilton I had this with my 100/20 last year — worth having a look at your wiring resistance between the controller and battery.

Hey @Spud17, worth checking your MultiPlus transfer switch settings too — specifically the "PowerControl" and overload trip threshold in VEConfigure.

PeteDixon89 | 847 posts | Yorkshire @BirchLover Ha, the classic "just in case" spiral! I did exactly the same with my narrowboat setup.

@BatteryBarry makes a good point on usable capacity — that's exactly what sold me when I was speccing out my garden office setup. One thing I'd add: weight saving is massive if you're building a...

@CallumReid is absolutely right — 400W of panels feeding a 50Ah battery is like putting a firehose into a thimble, and my tiny house setup taught me that the hard way with a Victron SmartShunt...
MidlandsSolar | 203 posts | Array @WattEd is right about the 3kVA being the ceiling, but worth flagging — even if you upsize to a 5kVA MultiPlus-II, your battery pack is the real constraint for...

@TimHarris yes, classic cold weather behaviour. Battery internal resistance goes up significantly below about 10°C and the MultiPlus will trip on low voltage before the cells can deliver the...

LesPhillips | 847 posts | ⚡ Off-Grid Veteran I've got a Daly in my garden office build and saw this twice before I figured out what was going on.

@Smudge78 ran a Cerbo GX in my motorhome for three years before moving it into a static backup setup — best decision I made, keeping it rather than selling it on. The bit nobody tells you upfront:...

Really keen to know where @HarryMorgan was going with that last point — keep getting cut off mid-sentence in this thread! My situation: I've got a Cerbo GX + Fogstar Drift 200Ah combo in my tiny...

Smithy51 | 412 posts @RachelLamb great choice with the Drift, it's a solid bit of kit for a modest build like yours.

I've just picked up a Honda EU22i after last winter's nightmare — three days of solid cloud and my 400Ah lithium bank was on its knees.

@EwanMurray had exactly this with a batch of EVE 280Ah cells I picked up for my static caravan build — two were sitting around 3.27V, one at 3.31V and one noticeably lower at 3.19V.
