Great thread. One thing I'd add to what @HeatherOllie and @Lefty31 have already covered — source matters enormously.

@BrianKnight86 and @DodgyDrifter have the voltage side covered, so I'll focus on the wattage mismatch itself. Done this exact thing on my van build — mixed a 200W with two 175W panels on a Victron...

Robbo41 | 412 posts @GafferTapeKing19 Good setup mate. One thing worth mentioning that catches people out with statics in winter - condensation inside the battery compartment can be a real issue...

Been running a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 paired with two 200W panels (wired in series, so about 44Voc each = ~88V combined) feeding into a 100Ah lithium on my van.

Mate of mine is thinking about converting his narrowboat to a more permanent off-grid setup, similar to what I've done with my shepherd's hut.

Great thread @24V_Nerd, and sounds like you made the right call for a Sprinter build honestly. Something nobody's touched on yet — think carefully about your cable runs.

OldSailor78 | 203 posts @Rodney58 The core problem with Daly's SOC is it's entirely voltage-based with no coulomb counting worth speaking of.

@PennineBoater — classic partial shade problem with series strings. When one panel gets hit (bridge, overhanging trees, lock structures), it drags the whole string's voltage down and your MPPT...

@SaltyMaker welcome to 2019, glad you've finally arrived 🙄 Seriously though, the real kicker nobody mentions is the charge acceptance difference — my narrowboat bank stops arguing with the Victron...

Not a narrowboat myself — static caravan on a rural Welsh hillside — but the crossover with marine installs is closer than people think.

Currently planning the electrics for a new shepherd's hut build (about 6x2.5m) and I'm going back and forth on system voltage.

Really interested in this thread — I'm running a Victron MultiPlus-II 2000VA in my motorhome but have been wondering about repurposing a second unit as emergency home backup. Quick question for...

Currently spec'ing out the inverter/charger for my tiny house and going back and forth on whether to go 48v or stick with 24v.

@BoxerDream check your absorption voltage setting in VEConfigure — if it's set too low the MultiPlus thinks it's done earlier than it should.

Right, so I've been pulling my hair out with this for the past week or so. I've got a MultiPlus 12/3000/120 running off a 200Ah lithium (LiFePO4) bank, and every time my other half bungs a jacket...

Yeah December is brutal isn't it. Running a garden office here and last week was genuinely worrying — my Fogstar 200Ah LiFePO4 got down to about 30% by Thursday which I've never seen before. One...

Something worth adding from my own shepherd's hut experience — the Victron Connect app integration genuinely changes how you manage a static setup long-term.

Great shout on this setup @Chopper42. One thing I'd add to what @KeithMartin and @JakeHall76 have covered — the Victron Connect app integration on the Orion-Tr Smart is genuinely useful for a...
