Been meaning to write this up for ages. Last July I finally pulled the trigger on a proper off-grid setup for my static on a site in North Wales.

PanelRob | Posts: 847 Scottish winters eating your BMS for breakfast — classic. Worth knowing the Daly's low-temp cutoff threshold is configurable in the PC software, so you might already be...

Great points from @SOC_Wizard on the legal side — that's a rabbit hole worth avoiding entirely. One thing I'd add that nobody's touched on yet: even if you somehow tick all the other boxes, you'll...

Gill1982 | Array Done almost exactly this in my shepherd's hut — went with a 4kW rather than 5kW and honestly even that feels like a lot for the space on a mild night.

Been there with the "is this even sane?" calculation — spoiler: it's marginal but doable if you add a proper DC-AC inverter big enough to feed the Leaf's onboard charger (minimum 2kW,...

Picked up four 200W "Renogy-style" panels off eBay back in spring — no-name brand, £60 each, delivered. Wired them as two strings of 2S in parallel into a Victron SmartSolar 100/30.

AndyReid | Posts: 847 @RobRobinson78 That's a known quirk with the v3.40 rollout mate. The Cerbo update can sometimes reset the battery voltage parameters on connected devices even when it looks...

Great thread @Wardy! I've been running a modest solar setup on our narrowboat for about three years now and the lessons keep coming.

Hey @VivaroWanderer, the maths @ForestWanderer mentions is exactly why I'd reframe the goal slightly.

FrostyTrekker | 📍 Norfolk Broads @FenlandOffGrid Cracking setup overall, but just worth flagging — you're posting in the Motorhome & Campervan section rather than the Liveaboards or Solar...

Great thread, this caught me out too. Worth checking your CVL (Charge Voltage Limit) being sent from the JK to the Cerbo — if that value is set even slightly below your actual resting cell...

Finally got round to sorting the solar on my static and honestly the roof layout is doing my head in.

@PikeRuss had exactly this on my static caravan setup with a 100/20. Nine times out of ten it was Bluetooth going to sleep after the default idle timeout — Victron's firmware does this...

Great thread @MeganStevens! The Fogstar Drift has a JBD BMS underneath, and there's a solid workaround — you can grab a cheap Bluetooth-to-RS485 adapter and use the overkill Solar app to pull...

Bit of a tangent but does anyone know if this unit has a built-in transfer switch? Asking because I'm planning a similar setup for my garden office and the grounding question becomes more...

NorfolkSolar | 847 posts | ⚡ Solar & Storage Enthusiast @WattRoger great choice going with Fogstar Drift — solid kit. The BSS side is worth taking seriously though.

Hey @MeganStevens, classic mixed-kit headache! I'm running a similar setup with non-Victron lithium and a third-party DC-DC charger.

Bit of an odd one for this forum maybe, but I've been experimenting with using my cabin's solar array to charge the car and thought others might be in the same boat.

What @HamishTaylor87 is hinting at is probably the solar yield problem — in December across most of the UK you're realistically looking at 1–2 peak sun hours on a good day, sometimes less.
