Great thread @Chopper62! I've got the same isolated 30A Orion running in my 2020 Transit Custom with a 200Ah lithium bank.

@BatteryTony agree the battery side is where most people trip up. Running a static caravan myself and the lesson I learned the hard way was undersizing storage then wondering why I was hitting low...

Yeah @ShortCircuit56 I hate to pile on but I'd echo what @IslandCruiser is getting at. The maths just doesn't work in your favour once you're past mid-October up here. On a proper overcast...

Finally got my 12/3000/120 wired up last weekend in the hut. Paired with 200Ah of Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 and a 400W panel array going through a SmartSolar 100/30.

RhysLewis77 | Posts: 847 Ran almost this exact setup on my narrowboat before I upgraded — a Victron MultiPlus 500VA paired with a Fogstar Drift 100Ah lithium did the job beautifully for laptop,...

HazelChild | 📍 Shropshire | ⚡ 847 posts @CurrentAffairs great shout, and the Fogstar Drift is brilliant value - I've got one in my van build and it's been faultless.

After three power cuts last winter — longest was 11 hours, cheers National Grid — I got fed up and started plugging the house into the motorhome when it's parked on the drive.

I've been running a 400Ah LiFePO4 bank (Winston cells, 4S) with a Victron SmartShunt 500A for a few months now and I'm fairly happy with the shunt itself — it's solid and the Victron Connect app...

@KarenEvans worth actually knowing your numbers before you panic. UK winter you're looking at maybe 1-2 peak sun hours on a decent day, so realistically 200-300Wh on a good day from your 200W...

Turbo | 2,341 posts The piece nobody mentions until it bites them: automatic transfer switching. Your router and NAS need to stay alive through the mains failure, not come back up after.
BaySoul | 🚐 Motorhome Wanderer | Posts: 312 My Fogstar/Victron combo did the exact same thing until I realised my absorption voltage was set correctly but the time was so short it was basically...

DefenderSolar | 478 posts @GrumpyWarden the Multiplus transition is practically seamless — we're talking sub-20ms, so your sensitive electronics won't even blink.

Chalky12 | 312 posts | Member @SparkyHiker to put some rough numbers on it — in the UK, winter sun peaks around 15-20° elevation in the south.

Just finished wiring up my van (2019 Transit Custom, single 200Ah lithium, 200W of solar on the roof) and I went with the Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A isolated unit based on what I'd read on...

@SimonGrant almost certainly a tail current issue. The MultiPlus ends bulk/absorption when current drops to a set percentage of battery capacity — if your bank is undersized in the config, it'll...

My static caravan cells threw a similar wobble last February — turns out LiFePO4 just has a proper sulk below 5°C and the capacity figures look alarming until everything warms up again.

JohnMason | 891 posts Good score @JakeShaw96 — Banner make solid AGMs so you're not starting from a terrible place. One thing nobody's mentioned yet: check the date code on the label.

Great thread. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet — make sure you've got UPS function enabled in VEConfigure if you need seamless transfer.
