Good point from @LDVWanderer — worth adding that on a Transit Custom specifically, the alternator load can be a real consideration.
Jock90 | 📍 Array | Posts: 312 @DaiCole Ran into this exact circus on my narrowboat — turns out my 1800W "low power" induction hob was pulling a cheeky 2400W startup spike that the...

Solid build @Chippy33 but genuinely need to know — did you actually test everything before bolting that panel to the roof, or were you up a ladder in the rain going "well it's not on fire...

Been running a MultiPlus-II 24/3000/70-32 on my narrowboat for about eight months now, paired with a 280Ah Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 bank (24v, two 12v 280Ah in series).
Yep, caught me off guard too when I opened it up to check on my leisure battery bank this morning! The battery status screen does look quite different at first glance but I've had a rummage...

@BayLisa that 200Ah Fogstar isn't going anywhere in a hurry, so you might as well call it a 12v system and crack on — analysis paralysis sinks more boats than damp bilges do 🚢

I've got a fairly basic setup in my shed — 200W panel going through a Renogy Wanderer 30A PWM controller into two 110Ah AGM batteries wired in parallel.

Guilty as charged 😄 Mine started because I wanted to run a small TV without firing up the site hookup.

Steve2000 | 1,203 posts @OakSeeker had almost identical situation on my narrowboat last winter. What sorted it for me was adding a small self-regulating heat mat (the kind sold for pipe frost...

Something nobody's mentioned yet — double-check your battery capacity setting in the BMV-712 is accurate to your actual usable capacity rather than nominal.

Ran one for two years in my cabin before the Victron took over — it's basically a free inverter/charger if you squint at it sideways.

GlenSimon | Posts: 847 My garden office runs a Victron MultiPlus paired with a 100Ah Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 — overkill for six hours but I sleep considerably better than I did with the...

@SussexBoater "keep the fridge cold and pretend everything's fine" is basically my static caravan's entire energy philosophy too — except I added EV charging to the mix and now it's more...

RayTaylor | 1,243 posts @BayLisa Don't panic — a 200Ah 12v Fogstar is a perfectly decent foundation, especially for a narrowboat where space and weight distribution matter.

@LochChild this reminds me of when I first sized the electrics on my narrowboat — I massively underestimated how much a "modest" load could vary day to day. One thing nobody's mentioned...

Jumping in here — yes, absolutely use it day-to-day, not just for fault-finding. What I find particularly useful that nobody's mentioned yet is the advanced reporting side.
@DustyHiker the flat mounting is absolutely killing you in winter. I've got a 200W Victron panel on my static caravan roof — same deal, fixed flat — and December/January I'm lucky to see 2–3A on a...

My Victron SmartSolar 100/30 keeps throwing me off — it'll hit maybe 80% SOC on the Fogstar lithiums and just decide that's float time, cheers, done.
