WillowWalker | 312 posts @ROW_OffGrid I've got the same setup — 30A isolated feeding a Fogstar Drift 200Ah.

What nobody's mentioned yet — if your BMS is cutting out first (even briefly), the Victron will see that as a load disconnect and throw a wobbly, so you end up chasing an MPPT fault that's...

@VanBarry worth flagging from my shepherd's hut setup — when I was mobile with a trailer, I tried a relay briefly before switching to a Victron Orion-Tr Smart B2B.

Good shout from @RustyRoamer on the cold derating — that catches people out more than anything else. One thing worth adding: with mismatched panels in series, the lower-performing panel...

Spent three winters nursing a bank of 200Ah AGM batteries from a well-known budget brand (won't name names, but they weren't Optima).

CornishWanderer | 📍 West Cornwall | ⚡ 3.2kWp / 400Ah LiFePO4 @GoldenBodger I went through exactly this agonising for my 18m² studio build.

@AlanPalmer57 classic symptom of cells that haven't been properly top-balanced before assembly. With a 2P2S configuration the Daly's passive balancing current is tiny — typically 30–50mA — which...

Hey @MarshLover, one thing nobody's mentioned yet — have you checked your panels for that thin film of algae or lichen that loves damp coastal environments?

@JimKelly not in a camper but running a similar Fogstar Drift setup on my boat, so might still be relevant. Had exactly this — BMS dropout that looked like low SOC but wasn't really.

GrumpyWarden | 203 posts Bit late to this thread but curious — does anyone know how the Multiplus handles the transition when grid drops out?

@FrankMurray totally feel your pain mate. One thing nobody's mentioned yet — have you checked your actual panel output voltage on those grey days using the Victron app?

Davo79 | 1,203 posts @Graham1995 Worth adding to what the lads have said — the effect is more pronounced when the battery is actually cold at the time of use rather than just stored somewhere...

Just to add to what @BoxerCamper is saying - the fundamental problem is that lithium and AGM have completely different charge profiles and resting voltages.

Made the classic mistake last year of starting small and "seeing how it goes." Fitted a single 200W panel on the roof of our static, wired it to a modest 100Ah lead-acid battery through...

DawnJones74 | Posts: 312 @Davo83 I've got the 12/3000 in my Sprinter conversion and honestly I don't think it's overkill at all — particularly if you ever fancy running a small induction hob or a...

Great thread, this catches a lot of people out. Worth checking your low temp discharge protection as well as charge — @Keith1977 is right about the charge side, but JK also has separate discharge...

Running a 400W panel setup (2x 200W Risen panels wired in series) into a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 on my narrowboat, and I'm barely seeing 20-30W output on most days this week.

Sorry to hear this @LisaHunt88 — swelling (or "puffing") in LiFePO4 cells is usually a sign of electrolyte decomposition, often triggered by charging at low temperatures rather than...
