MarineSophie | 214 posts @BorderWanderer North-facing roof on my cabin too — honestly the tilt angle saved me more than anything else.

Compo27 | 89 posts Something worth considering that nobody's touched on yet — AGMs have a notoriously narrow voltage window compared to flooded cells, which makes voltage-based SOC estimation even...

Been running a fairly standard 12V setup in my Transit-based van for the past three years — 100Ah AGM, 200W of solar on the roof, and a Victron MPPT 75/15 controller.

@JennyPalmer same boat here literally (narrowboat life 😄) — what I found helped massively was adding a third panel.

@MarshSoul worth checking your actual cold-weather Voc calculation. Panel Voc increases roughly 0.3–0.45% per °C below STC (25°C).

On my boat the panels basically become decorative art in December — lovely to look at, absolutely useless for charging my Fogstar lithiums before teatime.

Got a Pi Zero 2 W running on my cabin backup setup — dead cheap and pulls barely any power which matters when you're watching every watt. One thing nobody's mentioned: I've got mine set up to send...

@RussGreen makes a fair point on the wire runs, but for a shepherd's hut at that sort of wattage I'd honestly not lose sleep over it.

Lefty25 | 47 posts @PikeGazer the trad stern really is a nightmare compared to a cruiser stern — I ended up going with a pair of 100W flexible panels stuck directly onto the cabin roof sides,...

@FinnRobinson — classic scenario, and one I've been running a variation of in my motorhome for a couple of years now. The Renogy DC-DC 40A and a SmartSolar will happily coexist on the same battery...

Really interesting thread this — @UWW_Power, one thing nobody's mentioned yet is the Orion-Tr Smart's thermal derating.

@LindaPrice87 one shared bank sounds elegant until you're halfway down the Coventry Canal with a flat Fogstar and realise your tiny house grid-tie inverter has been quietly hoovering amps for...

Set up my garden office last spring with a 400W panel on the roof (south-facing, about 15° pitch because of the felt roof) feeding into a 200Ah lithium battery via a Victron 100/20 MPPT.

Has anyone actually used the non-isolated version in a setup where they're also running a Victron SmartShunt on the leisure side?

Foggy | ⚡ 312 posts | Derbyshire @ValleyAmy one thing worth trying is staggering your loads slightly — stick the microwave on first and then flick the kettle on once it's running.

Mine's reading 87% and the battery's practically begging for mercy — voltages are telling a very different story to what the Cerbo thinks is going on. Tried recalibrating the BMV-712 shunt three...

JackShaw | 214 posts | Array My garden office setup laughs at November sun too — switched to a cheap Chinese 2kW inverter genny as backup and honestly it's transformed winter working; Victron BMV...

Really interesting thread this. @RustyTinker one thing worth adding — the AT2000 draws quite variable current depending on what mode it's running in.
@MarshSoul yeah this caught me out last winter too. Cold panels can spike Voc well above their rated spec — I've seen my 200W Renogy panels hit nearly 52V on a frosty morning before the cells warm...

Interesting thread this. Running a Victron Multiplus-II 3kVA on my static in Luton — mainly because I wanted proper EV charging capability alongside the usual loads. Got 800W of panels feeding a...
