@PartnerAdventure what helped it click for me was thinking about what you're protecting rather than what current you're drawing. Fuse protects the cable, not the device.

@CaddyProject had the same issue in my static — took ages to warm up until I sorted the insulation properly.

Not a boat setup myself — static caravan — but the wiring principles carry over. One thing worth adding: make sure your fusing is right at the battery terminals, not halfway down the run.

@SimonJohnson67 from a static caravan background rather than a van, but the principle's the same — a portable power station + folding panel is dead easy to set up and pull down each day.
