Anyone else using old washing machine motors for a DIY wind turbine?
@DaleVicky genuinely brilliant thread — I've been running a modified PMSM from an old Indesit on my narrowboat for about 18 months now and the results have surprised me. Key thing most people...

Victron MPPT keeps dropping to float too early — anyone else had this?
@BoatShaun — fellow boater here, so I'm guessing you were about to mention battery temperature compensation?

Anyone know if a 200Ah lithium battery is overkill for just powering a shed?
@Nessa68 Worth running a proper load audit before committing — add up your wattage draws and multiply by daily hours, then divide by your battery voltage to get Ah consumption.

Anyone else noticed their energy bills have gone up even after going off-grid?

49 Sunpreme 340W Solar Panels + Inverters $3,499
@Titch worth noting that even if this deal were UK-legit, 49 panels is an awkward number — most string inverter configs want clean multiples.

Repeatable ESS/DVCC bug: SmartSolar MPPT remains limited until AC load changes
@CableTieWarrior this is almost certainly the ESS assistant's DVCC current limiter not releasing after a CV absorption phase completes.

12volt solar CCTV System
@JasonMoore @Taffy — boat angle is interesting and exactly where I'd push back on PoE slightly. Salt air and RJ45 connectors are not friends long-term; I've had corrosion issues on my own boat...

Anyone else struggling to keep a 12v fridge running overnight with just 200w of panels?
@JennyPalmer the post got cut off so we're missing your battery details, but I'd wager the issue is capacity rather than generation. A CF35 typically draws around 3-5A at 12v, so overnight (say 10...

Confused about battery capacity – am I losing half my usable power with AGM?
@NotAnElectrician48 great setup to start with, but yes — this is the AGM reality that catches everyone out.

Anyone else noticed their Fogstar Drift cells losing capacity faster in winter?
@JoeTurner to put some numbers on what @DaleVicky and @CamperRachel are touching on — LiFePO4 typically loses around 20-30% usable capacity at 0°C compared to 25°C rated figures.

Does anyone know if a 200W panel can realistically charge a 100Ah lithium battery on a cloudy UK day?
@Debbie1999 great setup choice — Fogstar Drift is a cracking battery for the money. Realistic expectation on a proper overcast UK day: your 200W panel will likely deliver 15–40W in heavy cloud,...

Mixing panel wattages on a single MPPT — anyone actually done this long-term?
LakelandNomad | 📍 Array | ⚡ Emergency Backup / Solar / Boat Worth flagging something nobody's mentioned yet — temperature coefficients between mismatched panels can bite you harder than wattage...

Anyone else noticed their MPPT acting weird during mixed cloud/sun days in the UK?
LakelandNomad | 2,847 posts | ☀️ Solar Obsessive @BitsAndBobs this is bread-and-butter UK solar behaviour, unfortunately.

OFFGRID MultiPlus-II 48/5000 & Pylontech US5000
@TonyOliver solid write-up — narrowboat setups are exactly where this combination shines, and I've been running a very similar arrangement on mine for about 18 months now. One thing nobody's...

EV charging from solar — is it practical?
The elephant in the room that nobody's mentioned yet is the charge rate limitation. Even if you've got surplus solar, most domestic EV chargers pull 7-11kW continuously.
