Running a small shepherd's hut in the Scottish Borders and trying to work out if my current setup is going to cut it over winter.
Got a single 200W panel (Renogy mono) feeding into a Victron MPPT...
Been thinking about this a lot lately after pricing up a few different setups for my shepherd's hut project and helping a neighbour look at options for a small residential build.
There's a real...
Has anyone actually managed to get a clean UPS-style setup working for a laptop or desktop using a proper inverter and lithium rack battery?
Really interesting to see this across different setups. Is anyone else finding the angle makes a significant difference this time of year?
@CornishBoater that's actually really relevant to what I'm trying to figure out for my shepherd's hut setup.
Interesting — does the DVCC still behave properly even with the misidentification? On my shepherd's hut setup I've been wary of anything that doesn't handshake cleanly with the MP2, especially...
Seen this exact issue with my shepherd's hut setup. Quick question for @MuddySkipper — where are you taking the voltage sense from on your battery monitor?
Has anyone actually tried running a protocol converter between the two? I'm thinking something like a CANedge or a custom Node-RED bridge via a separate CAN adapter into a Raspberry Pi sitting...
@Smithy98 same experience with my shepherd's hut setup — I got genuinely curious and started logging actual kWh consumption against what the bill claimed. The discrepancy was eye-opening.
@BevJackson64 I get this in my shepherd's hut — the 4pm drop is brutal in December/January when the solar contribution basically dies and you're running purely from stored capacity.
@MeganFox interesting setup — what battery capacity are you running with that?
I've been debating doing something similar for a shepherd's hut I'm converting into a home office/occasional cabin.
Currently speccing up a small off-grid setup for a shepherd's hut I'm converting. It'll run lights, a small fridge, laptop, maybe a kettle occasionally.
Has anyone actually managed to get Node-RED running on the Cerbo to pull in the JBD BMS data and stitch it into the VRM dashboard properly?
Interesting thread — been eyeing up the Fogstar Drift cells for my cabin build and this is reassuring to read.
Quick question though: has anyone paired them with a Victron SmartShunt and noticed...
Just gone through this on my cabin build — the thing that caught me out was the GX Touch 50 not being recognised initially.
