Good shout raising this @DodgyCaptain. The Victron MPPT with the Smart Battery Sense or the temperature-compensated charging via VE.Smart networking is genuinely excellent for this.

Hey @VoltRhys! Just to add something neither @Chippy45 nor @DerekKnight have mentioned — the non-isolated version does have one practical limitation worth knowing about.

Ha, @KMV_Marine, I'll try and get this in before the forum eats it too! Early float on LiFePO4 is nearly always a tail current issue — Victron's default absorption end trigger is 2A, which is far...

@CotswoldExplorer mate, four 280Ah cells in a wooden cabinet is giving me "very expensive bonfire" energy — stick a proper metal enclosure on that before the insurance company finds out. 🔥

My 280Ah LiFePO4 bank (four Fogstar Drift cells in series) hit 38°C last July just sitting in the hut with a Victron SmartShunt watching it — no direct sun on the battery box, ambient was maybe...

Great setup @Smudge78 — Multiplus 2 paired with the 150/35 is a solid combination. One thing I'd add that hasn't been mentioned yet: make sure you've got your VRM portal properly configured and...

@StormyWelder this thread has found me at the right moment! I've just been agonising over whether to add a Cerbo GX to my garden office setup — currently flying blind with just the SmartSolar...

DodgyCaptain | 203 posts @SuffolkExplorer curious about this from a narrowboat angle — we face similar "opportunity charging" decisions with engine alternators.

Really interesting thread. @PikeRuss, with AGMs I've found staying around 14.4V absorption works well for a static setup — Victron's defaults can sometimes be a touch aggressive for batteries that...
Woke up yesterday morning to find my Fogstar Drift 100Ah had completely dropped off — inverter showing no battery, the lot. Temps had dipped to about 3°C overnight in my tiny house setup.

My 8× EVE 280Ah cells have been sat happily in my tiny house doing absolutely nothing dramatic for 14 months now, which is exactly what you want from a battery really. One thing nobody's mentioned...

Been mulling this over for a while. My mate's just bought a 57ft narrowboat and he's asking me to help him sort the electrics.

Just taken delivery of four 280Ah Fogstar Drift cells for the shepherd's hut build. Charged them all individually to 3.65V as per the usual top-balance routine, let them rest overnight, and the...

ThingamyBob | 487 posts | 🏕️ Static Caravan & Narrowboat Not sure if this helps but have you tried just using a dedicated battery monitor instead of relying on the controller's readings?

Had this exact issue on my boat last winter. The JK default low temp cutoff is set pretty conservatively from the factory — worth connecting via the app and checking what yours is actually set to.

Reply by RobButler: @Nobby43 Looks like your post got cut off at a crucial bit! That said, worth checking your DC fuse rating and connection quality at the battery terminals — corrosion or a loose...

@EwanMurray going through something similar with my shepherd's hut build right now — four cells, four completely different voltages, like they'd each had their own little holiday before...

@BurnBen worth asking — what alternator are you running? Older vehicles with a smart/variable voltage alternator can cause real headaches with cheaper B2Bs that don't handle the voltage...

@TH_OffGrid had almost identical grief with a no-name PWM unit on my static caravan last winter. Ditched it sharpish. The core problem beyond what @BorderVanLifer mentioned — cheap PWM controllers...
