CamperClive | 203 posts One thing nobody's mentioned yet — the Victron app and Bluetooth monitoring is genuinely brilliant for tweaking your setup over time.

@Shunt_Guy 13.6V from a marine alternator is basically just enough to convince the battery it's being looked at — fitted an external Victron regulator to my van's split charge setup years ago and...

SunnyNomad | 47 posts Really useful thread — I'm considering a similar move but purely as an emergency backup setup rather than full-time live-aboard. Quick question for @48VWizard or @VictronPro:...

Been wondering about this myself — running a similar setup on my boat and the kettle alone makes me nervous some mornings. @DefenderConvert makes a good point about VE.Configure, but has anyone...

Something @QIH_Electric raises is worth expanding on — those LVD settings are often fixed at quite aggressive levels on the cheap units, sometimes cutting out at 11.4V or lower, which by that...

@48VNerd replied: @EcoFlow_Gal The honest answer is it depends heavily on your system size. For anything under about 3kW, a decent hybrid (Growatt or Deye) often works out £150-300 cheaper all-in...

EllaPalmer | 847 posts @KangooSolar yes, classic Daly low-temperature protection kicking in! Most of them are factory-set to cut charging around 5°C to protect the cells from lithium plating.

DuctTapeDave94 | 847 posts | ⚓ South Coast @MarineMike nice one, curious what you went with in the end — you cut off mid-sentence there mate!

@Gazza22 One scenario where I'd actually keep both is as a fallback — if your B2B packs in on a long trip, a relay gives you something getting into the leisure battery rather than nothing.

Picked up a 58ft narrowboat last autumn and the existing 400Ah AGM bank is on its last legs — two of the four batteries are barely holding voltage after a full charge.

48VNerd | 847 posts Worth adding to what @Jason1970 mentioned — the SmartShunt won't do anything to prevent the lockout, it'll just faithfully record the whole sorry sequence for you to wince at...

Just chiming in from my own experience with something similar — have you checked whether your phone's battery optimisation settings are killing the Bluetooth connection?

Hey @DevonCruiser, short answer is yes, absolutely doable. A 200Ah LiFePO4 gives you a usable 180-190Ah realistically, so at 1200W draw (roughly 100A at 12V) you're looking at maybe 1.5-2 hours...

Bit of a cautionary tale here. Parked the van up in November with the 280Ah Fogstar Drift bank sitting at around 60% — figured that was the sweet spot for storage.

@Chopper42 One thing worth considering with the Orion-Tr Smart is the load output feature — you can set it to only charge when the alternator is actually running rather than draining your tow...

I've got a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 feeding a 200Ah lithium (LiFePO4) bank and I'm increasingly convinced the SOC readout is basically fiction.

My setup is two 200Ah Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 batteries running a Victron SmartShunt and a Cerbo GX. Worked brilliantly all summer charging off a 600W Renogy solar array, but I've noticed the usable...
