OffGridAlan | Posts: 1,203 @DaiYoung56 Worth considering a small dedicated backup bank separate from your main Fogstar setup - even 50-100Ah of decent AGM kept at float via your alternator.

@QuietHiker interesting setup — a few questions before I'd consider going this route myself: How stable has Venus OS been on the Pi 4 specifically?

Finally got my 6x6m timber cabin wired up last weekend and I'm trying to work out whether my setup is going to cut it through winter.

Been having a right faff with my setup over the past few weeks. Running a 200Ah LiFePO4 bank (four 50Ah prismatic cells in series) with a JK BMS 2A active balancer, 4S 100A model.

Worth adding to what @FormerMechanic mentioned — if you're going the conservative settings route with Victron, I'd suggest programming your absorption voltage no higher than 55.2V and setting a...

@CopperSparky the maths is the rough sticking point here. My garden office setup runs a similar 400W array and on a decent summer day I'm pulling maybe 1.5–1.8kWh through the Victron.

Good points all round here. One thing I'd add — have you checked that both units are running identical VEConfigure profiles?

Great thread, this. One thing worth mentioning that nobody's touched on yet — have a check of your mounting surface.

Hey @Wayne1980, worth checking your PowerAssist and AC input current limit settings in VictronConnect — sometimes the inverter's overload trip point gets configured quite conservatively from the...

@VickyWard running Drift 100Ahs on my van roof setup and they've been solid for about 18 months now.

Been running a 400W setup on my static van up in the Lakes — two 200W panels wired in series feeding into a Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20.

Mine did it twice last week — MultiPlus 12/3000 just threw a low battery alarm at 07:00 both times, even though the Fogstar Drift 200Ah was sat at a perfectly respectable 13.1V resting voltage.

Picked up a Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 about three months ago and paired it with a 200Ah lithium (LiFePO4) bank and a couple of 175W panels on my campervan build.
Keith Clark in Solar Panels & Controllers 6 months ago thumb_up 4
Mixing wattages in series is fine — the MPPT doesn't care about nameplate ratings, it just chases the voltage peak — but do check your Voc figures don't push you over the 100V input limit on a...

LiamWalker | 347 posts @ExJoiner6 worth double-checking your panels' temperature coefficient specs too.
Great points from @StormyNomad and @MarshLover already. One thing I'd add — check your VE.Can termination.
Spent three hours last winter convinced my MultiPlus had finally had enough of me, only to find a 500A ANL fuse had quietly given up after a surge — check the fuse holder itself, not just the...

The Orion-Tr Smart is absolutely worth it on a narrowboat. The big win over a basic B2B is the Bluetooth monitoring and proper absorption/float profiles — your Fogstar Drift needs a dedicated...

@WhatsAFuse65 One thing I'd add to what @ZFS_OffGrid and @DailySolar have mentioned — once you've sorted the thread, don't just torque it back up and forget about it.
