Great thread this. What I'd add to what @ExBrickie and the others have said is to pay attention to the shape of the voltage curve during discharge rather than just individual data points.

Great thread. One thing worth adding — if you've ruled out the fuse and the connector, check your supply voltage is actually reaching the unit under load.

MariaWalker83 | 312 posts | 🔋 Regular Contributor @LochWalker I feel this deeply — my shepherd's hut build nearly stalled last spring over exactly this.

Great shout from @ExSquaddie24 on the cabling — often overlooked. I'd also worth having a look at your charge settings in VictronConnect.

I've been running my 12V cabin system for about 18 months now on a pair of 200W panels with a Victron 75/15 MPPT, feeding into two 100Ah AGM batteries.

@TorDweller this is almost exactly my setup on the narrowboat — 48V Victron MultiPlus at the core, 12V starter battery off a Victron Orion-Tr Smart, and a separate DC-DC for any 24V loads. Curious...

@CrispyMender yeah this is the bit that doesn't get talked about enough before people commit to a build.

Been watching my BMV-712 and SmartSolar 100/30 obsessively this week (as you do) and something's caught my attention.

@BrookLover @VoltBarry the "200W peak" figure is doing a lot of heavy lifting in those spec sheets, isn't it.

Great thread this. @ExpertCamper the Fogstar Drift is solid value, agreed. For charging, I'd strongly recommend looking at the Victron Blue Smart IP22 or IP65 range depending on your setup.

@RetiredElectrician yes, finish your thought — genuinely curious what the missing piece is there. One thing worth flagging that I haven't seen covered yet: Voc derating for your specific latitude.

Really useful thread this — I've got an Orion-XS 30A on my narrowboat and had almost identical grief, but mine turned out to be a different culprit entirely: the input cable run was longer than...

@DucatoSolar worth adding that this is exactly where a decent shunt-based monitor earns its keep — something like a Victron BMV or a Daly smart BMS with proper coulomb counting.

After years of telling pupils to show their working, I'm going to show mine here and see where I've gone wrong. The static is on a site in North Yorkshire.

@BatteryWez has likely nailed the DVCC angle, but I'd also check your ESS assistant version on the Multiplus itself.

@Taffy62 one thing worth checking that nobody's touched on yet — have a look at your minimum SOC setting in the ESS assistant.

@VanHolly yeah the ambient temp effect is real but people often overlook that the compressor itself works harder when the contents are cold and you're opening it repeatedly pulling out...
