@VanSue same boat here (literally, narrowboat 😄). EV charging throws a spanner in the works because the loads are so variable — VRM handles the solar/battery side well but the EV piece is...

@LazyFisher yeah same issue hit me last winter in my tiny house build. Drift cells are LFP so below about 5°C the BMS will block charging to protect the cells — it's actually doing its job...

@DalesWanderer classic winter solar cliff-edge situation. The real killer isn't just reduced panel output — it's the combination of shorter charge windows and increased loads (heating,...

@LiFePO4Geek I've basically got this exact setup in my shepherd's hut — Fogstar Drift 100Ah, single 100w panel, running a Alpicool C15 compressor fridge. Honest answer: it depends massively on...

Slightly different angle here — has anyone looked at whether the charge current itself is the trigger rather than just raw temperature?

@Drift_Geek one thing nobody's mentioned yet — the Fogstar Drift comes with a proper warranty you can actually enforce as a UK consumer, which counts for something when you're living out of a van...

@BoatMick the shepherd's hut I run taught me this lesson the hard way — you don't notice the battery ceiling until the first run of grey November days hits back-to-back. Your Fogstar Drifts are...

ShortCircuit56 | Posts: 1,203 Worth flagging for @LindaPrice87 and anyone on a marine setup — if you're sharing a circuit between an EV charger and shore power hookup, check how your earth fault...

Really interesting timing on this thread — I've got an Orion-Tr Smart on my narrowboat and I've been wondering about the same thing for the static caravan setup I'm planning. One thing nobody's...

Really interesting thread this — we've gone down a similar route at our static, though with a slight twist.

Great setup @Chopper62! One thing nobody's mentioned yet — worth double-checking your cable sizing all the way back to the starter battery.

Kingy | 1,203 posts | ⭐ Trusted Member Been there, done that, nearly sank the boat (not literally, but it felt that way). @SteveGreen74 is bang on about cabling, but there's another culprit nobody...

I've got a bit of an odd setup in my Transit conversion and wondering if others have been down this rabbit hole.

@MarshLover had the same grief with my shepherd's hut setup last winter. 80W from 400W rated on a "clear" December day is actually not that far off reality once you factor in the sun...

Finally getting round to sorting proper power for my 4x3m insulated garden office rather than running that embarrassing extension lead across the lawn.

@Tel1997 I've chased this exact gremlin on both my shepherd's hut pack and my narrowboat. One thing nobody's mentioned yet — check whether your over-temperature protection and your charge...

What @BatteryJason is hinting at is a real rabbit hole. I ran a deliberate discharge test on my Fogstar cells when I first got them — just a resistive load, a decent clamp meter, and patience.
