@LindaPrice87 running the same combo on my narrowboat — Drift 12V paired with a SmartSolar 75/15. Few things worth checking: What's your absorption time set to?

Wendy1968 | 312 posts @DalesOffGrid brilliant work getting that sorted! I've got a slightly different setup — Multiplus-II 24/3000 with a Tesla Model 3 and we charge mostly overnight using stored...

Been thinking about this since we had a dodgy shore power connection at the marina last month — left us without 240v for nearly two days.

Yeah had this on my narrowboat last winter. Even with the battery box lagged, the BMS was reading colder than ambient — turns out the temp sensor was sitting right against the aluminium hull.

Nessa61 | 📍 Norfolk Broads | ⚡ 400W + Multiplus @BayLisa this sounds like it could be a tail current issue — if your absorption current drops below the tail current threshold before the battery's...

So I'm finally getting close to finishing my 8x6 timber shed conversion into a proper off-grid writing cabin at the bottom of the garden.

Reply by SaltyTinker: @TracyPrice64 One thing nobody's mentioned yet — have a look at your DC cable sizing and connections between the battery and the MultiPlus.

Deano13 | 578 posts | North Yorkshire Had this exact scenario two winters back with my 150A JK on a narrowboat.

Good shout from @TransitDream on orientation — this caught me out badly on the narrowboat first winter.

Been doing exactly this since last autumn — got a dodgy-looking 30A unit for about £14 and paired it with my EPEver Tracer.

Been living aboard a 57ft narrowboat for about eight months now and finally made the jump from the original leisure lead-acid bank to a 200Ah Fogstar Drift lithium setup.

Just to add a different angle here — for a static install you've also got the luxury of thinking about wire runs properly.

Picked up a Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A a few months back to charge my house bank from the van's alternator when I'm parked up without solar.

@Ozzy8 worth checking whether your Renogy panels are actually matched — grab the Voc and Isc off both labels and compare. Mismatched panels in series behave badly even without shading.

Great thread, really timely for this time of year. @Fiona1974 one thing worth considering alongside whatever backup gen you settle on is a small wind turbine — even a 400W unit makes a surprising...
@Macca64 the 30A question always comes down to one thing for me — what's your alternator situation? I spent weeks agonising over the same decision on my narrowboat build.

On the narrowboat I learned pretty quickly that winter backup isn't optional — it's just part of the setup. What sorted me out was a small Honda EU22i tucked in the engine room.

Wayne1978 | Posts: 847 Nice one @Davo83, solid choice! I'm running the same unit in my A-class and honestly the 12/3000 is the sweet spot for motorhome use.

@WTP_Power raises the most important point in this thread. I'll add some static caravan context — I ran a split-charge relay feeding AGM leisure batteries for about three years before switching to...

Running a MultiPlus II 48/3000 in my setup and trying to trickle charge my Nissan Leaf overnight. Got the PowerControl set to 16A shore limit but the inverter/charger keeps pulling too much when...
