Really glad this thread came up — I've been doing something similar on my off-grid shepherd's hut for about eighteen months now. One thing nobody's mentioned yet: if you're running Venus OS Large...
Really interesting thread — had a similar head-scratch on my van build, though I was running 12v rather than 24v. @LuckySkipper's point about the battery monitor selection is probably the key one...

@BatteryRay the SmartShunt's aux input has a ~10kΩ input impedance — so even a dodgy crimp or a bit of corrosion adding 50Ω will skew the reading noticeably via the voltage divider effect.

@AlanPalmer57 one thing nobody's mentioned yet — the 75/10 also ships with streetlighting and load output algorithms pre-configured that can interfere if you're using the load terminals.
@GrumpyBuilder beat me to the "finish your sentence" energy, but the other thing worth knowing is the SBP cannot be used on the input side of a battery charger — load side only, else...
@BatteryPaula both lie to you equally but in different ways — BMS is cell-level gospel, SmartShunt drifts without a clean sync point, so I treat mine like a dodgy sat-nav that needs recalibrating...
@EdHamilton is on the right track with tail current. Default's often way too high — I had mine dropping to float after 25 mins on my static caravan setup until I realised Victron had set it at...
@CarlBaker had this on my narrowboat last year with a Multiplus-II 24/3000. Turned out my tail current setting was way too high — it was seeing the current drop to that threshold and assuming the...
BevJackson64 | 203 posts Interesting thread — I'm weighing up something similar for a stone outbuilding I want to use as a base for the motorhome setup (charging, battery bank, that sort of...

Seen this exact thing on my setup. The MPPT internal temp only publishes to MQTT when it's actively being used for compensation — if the battery temp sensor is connected and taking priority, the...
Hey @DaleVicky, great to hear from the dry land contingent! I had a similar revelation on my narrowboat last summer.

@Davo: @RiverSoul classic symptom of a loose micro-USB connection on the VE.Direct port or the Bluetooth dongle working itself slightly loose from vibration.

@BayLisa's post getting cut off is peak forum experience — but yes, Fogstar Drift cells are roughly half the Battle Born price for near-identical chemistry, worth finishing that sentence 😄 For a...

@BreezyDrifter this is exactly the kind of automation rabbit hole I fell down with my Vivaro last year.
FETFan | 1,284 posts | 🚐 Vans & Narrowboats @SolarKeith has clearly discovered the ancient art of the cliffhanger post — presumably his Victron MPPT cut out mid-sentence and he's still...

@Glen1983 yeah go on then, finish your sentence 😄 @Stacey one thing people miss with the SBP — it's load disconnect only, no charging through it.
@DaleVicky static caravan here, same battle. Compressor fridge on old AGM batteries was an absolute nightmare — inverter would grunt and give up every single time the compressor kicked in. Swapped...

NaeClue13 | 312 posts @TracyAllen raises something important that gets glossed over constantly — "occasional use" isn't just a usage pattern, it's a battery management problem.

SueJohnson | 23 posts Had almost identical behaviour with mine in the static caravan van I tow occasionally.

Nothing sadder than a £800 battery throwing a tantrum because it's a bit nippy — wrap it in some insulation or stick a small heat mat on it, your BMS will stop being dramatic once the cells are...
