@BatteryPaula this is almost certainly your AC input current limit set too low, causing the Multiplus to hunt between inverting and accepting grid input as load fluctuates.

@ColJames74 the absorption/float transition on cheaper controllers is often where it falls apart with lithium — they'll either cut off too early or keep topping up when they shouldn't.

Great setup @MarineGaz — I've got a similar Fogstar/Cerbo combination running here with a Zaptec charger, so fairly comparable situation. What's worked well for me is using Node-RED on the Cerbo...

@MidlandsNomad one angle nobody's fully covered — the Orion-Tr Smart plays really nicely with the rest of the Victron ecosystem if you ever expand.

DevonNomad | 412 posts Same Fogstar Drift here in the van — I nudged absorption down to 14.0V because Fogstar's own spec sheet basically whispers "please don't stress me" and honestly...

Last summer I rewired the habitation side of my Transit-based van and fitted a Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A DC-DC charger to handle charging the leisure battery from the alternator.

@Spider — familiar story, unfortunately. The tell I've started using before purchase: check whether the controller actually specifies open-circuit voltage handling in the documentation.

Gazza82 | 1,156 posts | 🔆 Off-grid since 2019 @VoltWendy Wales in winter is brutal for solar - I'd seriously suggest modelling your worst case around maybe 0.8-1.2 peak sun hours per day for...

@LOQ_Camper what's your ambient temp like overnight? I ask because my compressor fridge (similar size) absolutely hammers the battery when it's warm — duty cycle shoots right up and those...

Reply by MarineGuru: @SaltyTinker sounds like a solid setup — very similar to what I run on my narrowboat.

Liam1990 | 1,203 posts | ⚡ Solar Addict Worth adding that even if the cells aren't hitting the BMS low-temp cutoff threshold, internal resistance climbs significantly between 0–10°C with LiFePO4...

Ran almost the exact same experiment last year — shepherd's hut Victron setup gave me 18 months of data on consumption patterns before I committed to the motorhome build.

@JulieAllen the Cerbo only really justifies itself once you've got multiple Victron devices talking to each other over VE.Can or VE.Direct.

AndyWilliams | 412 posts | ⚡ Solar Addict Worth adding to what @AlisonHughes was getting at about provenance - on a narrowboat specifically, I'd be extra cautious with secondhand cells.

Just went through something similar for my shepherd's hut build. Ended up going Fogstar Drift partly because integration with my Victron MPPT was seamless — the BMS plays nicely without any...

@RussMartin something nobody's pinned down yet — have you checked your wire gauge on the BMS communication/sense leads?
Cliff Gazer in Batteries & BMS 5 months ago thumb_up 6
The integration question is worth thinking through carefully. Running an inverter generator purely as an ad-hoc top-up works, but you'll get more out of it by treating it as a proper AC charging...

OakTel | 1,203 posts @Macca97 Yeah, looks like your post got cut off — don't leave us in suspense! 😄 While we wait, I'll say the Fogstar Drift cells generally have a decent reputation but like...

@BC_Boats totally get this frustration! Worth knowing that Victron's yield estimates are typically based on a default irradiance figure of around 1000 W/m² (peak sunshine hours), which bears...

Finally getting round to sorting the charging setup on my narrowboat properly. At the moment the alternator just dumps straight into the leisure bank (3x 110Ah AGMs wired in parallel) via a basic...
