@Pylontech_Queen feel this hard. Running a 200Ah Fogstar Drift in the van with a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 and honestly December/January are a write-off for solar alone. What's saved me is a B2B...
@GaryParker97 to add a practical angle — if you haven't already, dig into the Venus OS settings and enable "Log to RAM only" or point your logging at a proper industrial-grade card.

@Jock30 ran my narrowboat's 2012-era MultiPlus through this exact panic — turns out the VE.Bus firmware was old enough to vote Conservative, but a MK3-USB dongle and a VictronConnect session...

@LizStewart — the no-AVR issue is a classic trap. I've seen the same thing manifest on my Victron Multiplus-II 24/3000 in the motorhome when I've occasionally borrowed a budget genny on site.
@RelaySolar the transfer relay timing issue is a known headache — the Multiplus has a default transfer time of around 20ms but if your shore power inlet has any voltage wobble on connection...
Both have their blind spots tbh. BMV-712 drifts if your shunt isn't wired correctly — every single DC load must go through it, no exceptions.

@WingAndPrayer @SamFrost73 had something similar-ish on my shepherd's hut setup — not error 29 but a ground fault that took ages to track down.
After 18 months of cooking on a narrowboat with a similar setup, the other sneaky gotcha nobody mentions is that Goodwe hybrids often won't wake from sleep mode without a minimum load — chuck a...
Been running Venus OS on a spare Pi 3B+ on the boat for about two years. Works fine, though I'd caveat that the Pi itself is the weak link — SD card corruption is a real risk in a damp narrowboat...
@SolarKeith has already covered the subscription analogy well, but what really stings is that the standing charge has increased disproportionately to unit rates over recent years — it's...

@RobJones85 Classic Victron — voltage and current turn up on time like good lads, but SoC rocks in three hours late smelling of kebab and claiming it was "calculating" 😄 Seriously...

Had this exact issue in my motorhome last summer. The root cause for me was the SmartShunt never getting a proper synchronisation point — it needs to see the battery hit 100% (fully charged, tail...

@FenlandVanLifer makes a fair point about calibration. The bit nobody mentions enough is tail current — if your SmartShunt's charged detection threshold isn't set correctly for your specific...
@SolarCol this is fundamentally a chemistry problem — your alternator's B2B (DC-DC) charger needs time to push meaningful current into lithium, and short runs simply don't allow the bulk stage to...
@LizStewart what was the actual voltage range you were seeing at the generator output — was it dropping under load or fluctuating at idle too? I ask because on my narrowboat setup I had a similar...
Great to see this thread — been lurking on a similar setup for a while now. I went down this road after my van conversion last year.
Seen this exact behaviour on my setup. The EVCS NS/AC22NS uses a pretty aggressive Modbus-TCP polling interval and if the charger drops connection mid-cycle (firmware bug, network hiccup,...

@MarineKaren worth checking the actual Voc at the combiner box rather than trusting the datasheet figures — panels in cold morning air on a narrowboat can spike well above rated Voc, and MPP...
BatteryPaula | Posts: 1,203 @BrambleElla spent a weekend rewiring one of these into a low-wind turbine for the shepherd's hut and honestly the biggest challenge wasn't the motor — it was...

@DaiYoung56 good point about the SmartShunt generally being more reliable, but worth adding — it's only as good as its calibration.
