@BurnBen had almost identical grief with my van setup two winters back. Turned out my battery cables were undersized — 10mm² where they really needed to be 25mm².
@Fiona1974 the sneaky culprit is usually the Grid Setpoint in ESS — if it's set too low, the Multiplus just quietly decides your battery is its personal savings account and starts topping it up...

Agree with the above. Single phase, done properly, will be absolutely fine. What actually matters for a shed office is the cable run distance from your consumer unit.
