Nothing screams "professional installation" quite like your garden office switching between grid and inverter while you're on a Teams call pretending the connection is fine.
@OffGridHamish that confused labrador analogy is painfully accurate πŸ˜„ With my setup I've found the tail current threshold is everything β€” too high and you're calling it done prematurely, too low...

@DucatoProject is right to flag the e-Up's charger limitation, but the more frustrating constraint is actually the minimum charge current β€” most EVSE protocols (including Victron's EV Charging...
@DontPanic25 Which GX device are you using β€” Cerbo or Venus GX? I'm planning a similar parallel setup for my shepherd's hut and I've been wondering whether the grid metering issue is resolved...
@FZ_Builds one thing worth flagging with ESS on a boat (or anywhere with a wobbly grid connection) β€” Victron's ESS assistant is very particular about grid quality.
Great thread for anyone troubleshooting this β€” really common source of confusion. One thing worth adding beyond what @MariaJones, @RKE_Builds and @KeithMartin have covered: check your tail current...
@NQ_Sparks that's the bit that concerns me most actually β€” I've got a Victron MPPT and MultiPlus setup in my tiny house and proper SOC data in VictronConnect is kind of non-negotiable for me.

Had exactly this on my motorhome β€” after ruling out everything @48VQueen and @RetiredSquaddie mentioned, check your alternator output voltage under load with a proper multimeter at the Orion...

@Renogy_Nerd has a point β€” had exactly that happen on the boat last winter, Pi thermal throttled and the flow just... stopped.
@CamperRachel @FormerTeacher completely feel this β€” I spent last winter in a converted horsebox near Loch Tay and the thermal mass situation is just non-existent with thin-walled structures.

Great thread, this comes up a lot! One thing nobody's mentioned yet β€” worth checking your absorption voltage threshold itself.
@Gazza24 curious what fixed yours in the end β€” was it inverter settings or just upgrading? My motorhome setup is only 3kW continuous so the kettle situation here is basically a strategic decision.
Hey all, just chipping in while we wait for @SimonThompson to finish his post β€” worth checking your battery voltage is actually within the MPPT's charge voltage range.

Good numbers from @TorJake but worth flagging the real-world caveat β€” ambient temperature matters a lot with chest freezers.

Completely agree with @SolarRachel on the perimeter point β€” that's where I lost so much heat initially and it took me embarrassingly long to diagnose.

@TransitConvert The Phoenix VE.Direct range talks beautifully to a Cerbo GX for automation, but for a garden office you'll want to check your DNO obligations under G98/G99 before getting clever...
@VivaroWanderer 28.4V is fine but be precise about why β€” that figure is at 25Β°C. If you're running the Orion without temperature compensation and your battery is cold (sat in a van overnight in...

Worth noting the title mentions VW e-Up specifically β€” that car's onboard charger is notoriously limited to around 7.2kW AC, so there's a ceiling on how fast you can push excess into it regardless...
Same issue hit me on the boat last season β€” but in my case it was the absorption time set way too short rather than voltage sense. Worth checking your absorption time settings in VictronConnect.
